Abstract In this article, the results from a pilot-scale, underground coal gasification (UCG) experiment conducted in an operating coal mine “Wieczorek” were presented. The 60-day gasification trial demonstrated that through the appropriate selection of the test site and by applying all safety standards essential for the coal mining industry, UCG in ...

The Dynamic Temperature Field of Two-Stage Underground Coal Gasification (UCG)
Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2006Two-stage UCG is an effective technique to produce water gas with high heating value; its gas producing process is mainly determined by temperature. On the basis of the model experiment, via the analysis of the temperature field distribution regularity in the gasified coal layers in the gasifier and the generalization and treatment of the boundary ...

Chapter 4. Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
2010Underground Coal Gasification (UCG), taken on its own, offers the prospect of increasing the world's usable coal reserves by a factor of at least three,1 and doing so in a cost-effective manner with the added benefit of avoiding the risk to life and limb that accompanies deep coal mining.

Abstract This paper presents the results of six tar sample analyses obtained during 60 days of an underground coal gasification (UCG) trial in the “Wieczorek” mine in Poland. The tars were sampled periodically during coal gasification by four different reagents: oxygen enriched air, air, a mixture of air and carbon dioxide, and air with nitrogen. The

Abstract The unconventional use of coal to supplement Natural Gas (NG) in the power and chemical industry makes Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) an important technology in economically producing unconventional gas. Present day exploration and production technologies pave the way "from a potential to actual production ...

Abstract India is blessed with large reserves of deep seated coal which cannot exploit economically with the available technology. The gap in demand and supply of energy is on rise for the nation. Underground coal gasification (UCG) is a way of accessing the un-mineable coal for its energy contents and as a chemical feed stock.

Abstract The UCG (underground coal gasification) trial was carried out at the Experimental Mine “Barbara” within the RFCS Project HUGE (2007–2010). The georeactor was placed in the coal seam 310 at the depth of 30 m. During the period of 15 days about 22 tons of hard coal was gasified with the average consumption rate of 62 kg/h.

Abstract During underground coal gasification (UCG), whereby coal is converted to syngas in situ, a panel (cavity) is formed in the coal seam. Unlike other underground mining methods, the coal and country rocks in the vicinity of a UCG panel are subjected to high temperatures which may be in excess of 1000 °C.

The technology of underground coal gasification to produce synthesis gas requires a flare to dispose of vented surplus gas. Since any coal seam will contain chlorine, there is the potential to produce dioxins (PCDD/F) in the flare flame, provided that chlorinated products are released during the gasification reactions. Because of the sulphur present in

Abstract An experimental simulation of underground coal gasification (UCG) using large bulk samples of ortho-lignite was conducted in an ex-situ laboratory installation. The main goal of the experiment was to evaluate the suitability of the high-moisture lignite for UCG.
