CeOLE genes exhibit a tuber-predominant expression pattern and their mRNA/protein abundances are positively correlated with oil accumulation during tuber development. Overexpression could significantly increase the oil content of tobacco leaves. Oleosins (OLEs) are abundant structural proteins of lipid droplets (LDs) that function in LD formation and ...

Comparison of the protein in axillary bud tubers and underground stolon tubers in potato
American Potato Journal, 1982To determine if axillary leaf bud tubers can be used to study tuber protein synthesis in potato we have compared the proteins in axillary bud tubers with those in underground stolon tubers in the variety Superior. By SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and by electrophoresis in nondenaturing polyacrylamide gels at pH 8.6, the proteins in axillary ...

Abstract The response of potato (Solanum tuberosum cv Haryeong) to mulching and different planting depths was evaluated during 2010–2013. Two different plastic mulches, black and clear polyethylene (PE) were compared with the unmulched control and seed tubers were planted at 5-, 10-, 15-, and 20-cm depths in each treatment.

Tuber, or not tuber: Molecular and morphological basis of underground storage organ development
Current Opinion in Plant BiologyUnderground storage organs occur in phylogenetically diverse plant taxa and arise from multiple tissue types including roots and stems. Thickening growth allows underground storage organs to accommodate carbohydrates and other nutrients and requires proliferation at various lateral meristems followed by cell expansion.

The ornamental daylily, Hemerocallis fulva (Hemerocallidaceae), possesses a short, vertically oriented basal shoot packed with a circle of root tubers that are exhausted during sprouting after dormancy. During the growth period a new circle of root tubers is formed, enabling the plant to survive the next resting phase.
