Iterative Phase Compensation for Underwater Acoustic Communications

2008 IEEE Pacific-Asia Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Industrial Application, 2008
An iterative phase compensation algorithm is presented to recover carriers for underwater acoustic communications in this paper. The joint equalization and phase compensation are iteratively implemented. In a new iteration, the second-degree polynomial is used to fit a phase sequence. The performance of new algorithm is analyzed with simulations.

Scalable OFDM design for underwater acoustic communications

2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008
Multicarrier modulation in the form of OFDM has been actively pursued for underwater acoustic communication recently. In this paper, we present a desirable property of OFDM that one signal design can be easily scaled to fit into different transmission bandwidths with negligible changes on the receiver.

Asynchronous multiuser underwater acoustic communications (L)

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
An asynchronous multiuser system is proposed to support multiple-access underwater communications without the use of code-division multiple-access or a feedback channel. The rich multipath channels experienced by spatially separated users will be sufficient to ensure separation of collided packets at the base station. The iterative receiver will employ

Ocean Variability Effects On Underwater Acoustic Communications

2007
Abstract : This proposed research seeks to identify, explain, and ultimately predict, the factors that significantly alter the operational effectiveness of underwater acoustic communications through experimental work and theoretical analysis. The long-term goal is to develop reliable, high rate transceivers customized for coherent underwater acoustic ...

Overview of Underwater Acoustic Communication

2018
Since radio signals are strongly attenuated in saltwater and often scattered by suspended particles (similar for optical signals), acoustic wave becomes major communication medium used in underwater environments (Preisig, Proceedings of the ACM international WS, underwater networks (WUWNet), Los Angeles, USA 2006, [1]). However, some characteristics of

Underwater acoustic communications: Practice, modeling, and commentary

2010 7th International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems, 2010
At present, the realities of acoustic communications and undersea networks differ substantially from the expectations arising from academic theory and investigation. The issue is not that the fundamentals of communications theory do not apply, but rather the fact that the difficulties of the acoustic channel do not necessarily fit the assumptions ...
