The behaviour of underwater explosions

1966
The general characteristics of underwater explosions have been well established over the past fifty years and a general description of both the experimental and theoretical behaviour of underwater explosions is given by Cole [1], Various theories exist for the analysis of successive phases of an explosion underwater, i.e.

Spectra of Large Underwater Explosions

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1965
The line structure present in the spectra of small underwater explosive charges, due to interference between shock wave and bubble pulse, has often been observed. Signals received at Bermuda from two recent large underwater explosions exhibit similar characteristics.

DEBRIS DISTRIBUTION IN UNDERWATER EXPLOSIONS

1964
Abstract : During this reporting period (January 1, 1963, to January 1, 1964), above and below surface effects of underwater explosions were investigated through use of exploding wire equipment. A correlation between bubble phases and deposition of debris was sought and a means was devised to measure debris concentration in certain water column areas ...

UNDERWATER EXPLOSIONS BENEATH ICE

1962
Abstract : Effects of underwater explosions beneath lake ice and Arctic ice have been studied experimentally. Results are applicable to prediction of underwater damage ranges from nuclear bursts beneath ice, and to the design of an explosive ice destructor to provide nuclear submarines with quick access to surface.

Underwater Testing of Slurry Explosives

Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 1980
AbstractThe facilities in use at Dyno Industrier A.S for testing explosives underwater are described. Shock wave energy and bubble energy together with detonation velocity are measured with different degrees of confinement. The use of the underwater shooting station for developing new explosives and testing of different ignition systems is explained ...

Simulation of Waves by an Underwater Explosion

Journal of the Waterways and Harbors Division, 1969
The properties of water waves produced by underwater explosions were studied in a test basin where the underwater disturbance was simulated by means of a rapidly withdrawn or immersed paraboloidal plunger. Combinations of quick withdrawal or immersion of the 14-ft-diam half-paraboloid plunger located near the midpoint of one wall of the approximately ...

THE SCALING OF UNDERWATER EXPLOSION PHENOMENA

1962
Abstract : An attempt is made to summarize the problems and the semantics of scaling in a concise form without use of mathematical developments. The well known cube-root scaling is shown to be a consequence of Mach's similitude, the fourth-root scaling, of Froude's similitude.
