Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Fundamental Characteristics of Underwater Shock Wave due to Underwater Explosion of High Explosives.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 1996
Fundamental characteristics of underwater shock waves generated by underwater explosion of high explosives are investigated by both experimentally and by numerical simulation. The attenuation process of the underwater shock wave is also investigated theoretically using a method of characteristics. Slab explosives are used in the experiments.

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...

Mitigation of underwater explosion effects by bubble curtains : experiments and modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mine fields and UneXploded Ordnances (UXO) become a danger regarding maritime activities. Since UXOs are strongly affected by marine corrosion after decades, they cannot be handled safely.

On–Off Switchable Micromotors for Use in Steerable Microvehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Electrically controllable micromotors and microvehicles are developed by tuning the diffusion of the fuel. Self‐propelled micromotors using bubble propulsion show great promise for miniaturized devices with multiuse purposes such as cargo delivery and sensing. However, there is currently no method to electrically switch the micromotors on or off. Here,

The cylindrical shock at underwater wire explosion

open access: yes, 2022
New analytical solution of the piston and shock evolution for the wire electrical explosion in water is obtained. This is provided on the base of the compressible Euler equations without usually a prior introduction of any self-similarity hypothesis.

UTact: Underwater Vision‐Based Tactile Sensor with Geometry Reconstruction and Contact Force Estimation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Embedded flexible sensing technologies advance underwater soft robotics, yet most systems still suffer from hysteresis and limited perceptiveness. Instead, vision‐based tactile sensors provide reliable and rapid feedback essential for complex underwater tasks.

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

Simulation of the underwater nuclear explosion and its effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
This research was conducted to enhance understanding of the use of high explosives to simulate the effects of a nuclear underwater explosion. A review of the known characteristics of the nuclear, spherical conventional, and tapered conventional ...
