Modeling Benthic Animals in Space and Time Using Bayesian Point Process With Cross Validation: The Case of Holoturians

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Holothurian populations in the Mediterranean are relatively understudied, with limited knowledge of their spatial distribution, habitat preferences, and ecological dynamics, making their monitoring a key challenge for ecosystem assessment and sustainable management.

Freshwater Fish Habitat Complexity Mapping Using Above and Underwater Structure-From-Motion Photogrammetry

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Substrate complexity is strongly related to biodiversity in aquatic habitats. We illustrate a novel framework, based on Structure-from-Motion photogrammetry (SfM) and Multi-View Stereo (MVS) photogrammetry, to quantify habitat complexity in freshwater ...

Métodos de documentación arqueológica aplicados en arqueología subacuática: el modelo fotogramétrico y el fotomosaico del pecio fenicio Mazarrón-2 (Puerto de Mazarrón, Murcia) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In 2007, ARQVA – National Museum of Underwater Archaeology carried out an archaeological project at the Phoenician shipwreck Mazarron-2 (Port of Mazarron, Murcia, Spain). The aims of the project were to check the state of preservation of the hull remains

Comparing convolutional neural network and random forest for benthic habitat mapping in Apollo Marine Park

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 275-291, April 2026.
A comparison of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Random Forest (RF) model predictions of benthic habitats within Apollo Marine Park. The CNN (left) and RF (right) classification maps show the spatial distribution of three habitat types: high energy circalittoral rock with seabed‐covering sponges, low complexity circalittoral rock with non‐crowded

Channel Evolution During Drawdown of Iron Gate and Copco I Reservoirs, Klamath River, CA

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract This study used the world's largest dam removal on the Klamath River to investigate channel evolution in unconsolidated silt and clay sediment during reservoir drawdown. Timelapse imagery revealed retrogressing rotational slides and flowslides as key sources of sediment to the re‐emerging channels.

Underwater Photogrammetry for Archaeology

open access: yes, 2012
Archaeological excavations are often irreversibly destructive, so it is important to accompany them with detailed documentation reflecting the accumulated knowledge of the excavation site. This documentation is usually iconographic and textual. Graphical representations of archaeological sites such as drawings, sketches, watercolors, photographs ...

A Robust Quasi-dense Matching Approach for Underwater Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
While different techniques for finding dense correspondences in images taken in air have achieved significant success, application of these techniques to underwater imagery still presents a serious challenge, especially in the case of “monocular stereo ...

Comparison of starts and turns of national and regional level swimmers by individualized-distance measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The aim of this study was to compare the race characteristics of the start and turn segments of national and regional level swimmers. In the study, 100 and 200-m events were analysed during the finals session of the Open Comunidad de Madrid (Spain ...

Enhancement of Hyporheic Flow and Solute Transport by Random Burrow‐ and Mound‐Induced Bioturbation

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Bioturbation significantly modifies sediment structure and surface roughness, thereby altering hyporheic exchange and associated biogeochemical processes. However, the role of random burrow galleries and mound arrangements in lotic environments remains unclear, particularly when considering field representative conditions.
