Effects of locally resonant modes on underwater sound absorption in viscoelastic materials
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011Recently, by introducing locally resonant scatterers with spherical shape proposed in phononic crystals into design of underwater sound absorption materials, the low-frequency underwater sound absorption phenomenon induced by the localized resonances is observed. To reveal this absorption mechanism, the effect of the locally resonant mode on underwater

This paper concerns itself with the scattering and absorption of underwater incident sound by a coated infinite plate with an attached distributed inhomogeneity. Its objective is to determine if the distributed inhomogeneity can provide additional local reflection, such that it only increases the signal-to-noise ratio for a hydrophone detector placed ...

Influence of hole shape on sound absorption of underwater anechoic layers
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2018Abstract A theoretical model is established to evaluate the sound absorption performance of underwater anechoic layers containing periodically distributed axial holes. Based on the concept for homogenized equivalent layer and on the theory of wave propagation in viscoelastic cylindrical tubes, the transfer function method is used to obtain the ...

Tunable underwater sound absorption characteristics of 0–3 piezoelectric anechoic coating
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of AmericaPiezoelectric composite materials (PCMs) with shunt damping circuits are used widely in hydroacoustics because of the flexible adjustability of their parameters. PCMs offer good underwater sound absorption, but shortcomings remain, such as poor low-frequency sound absorption, narrow bandwidth, and a single dissipation mechanism.
