Sound absorption mechanism of underwater anechoic coating with spherical cavities
Abstract An axisymmetric theoretical model is simplified to investigate sound absorption in the underwater anechoic coating with spherical cavities. An empirical equation is put forward to predict the frequency at the first absorption peak.

Quantifying river morphological changes using multi‐satellite observations and in situ measurements
This study integrates optical, radar and altimetry satellite data with river gauge measurements to estimate periodically submerged riverbed topography and quantify morphological change. By linking how often water covers the riverbed with water‐level variations, erosion and deposition patterns are mapped across a reach of Jamuna River.

Predicting potential Arctic kelp distribution and lower‐depth biomass from seafloor irradiance
Abstract Kelps have an extensive distribution in Arctic coastal waters. However, quantifying their role in the Arctic food web and carbon cycle is challenged by the scarcity of documented geographical distribution, standing stocks and production. Here we present a framework based on an empirical function to predict the potential kelp distribution and ...

Influence of Biofilms and Extracellular Polymeric Substances on High‐Frequency Acoustic Backscatter
Abstract Acoustic Backscatter Technique has been used to detect underwater targets and characterize seabed and river floor sediment properties. Microbial biofilms, consisting of microorganisms enclosed in Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS), have the potential to modify acoustic backscatter by altering the sediment topography, permeability, and ...

Abstract Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) has been used to estimate the presence and spatial distribution of target organisms using biological sounds received by microphones. Due to its cost‐effectiveness and non‐invasiveness, PAM is becoming a promising approach for studying the spatiotemporal dynamics of large groups in response to environmental ...
