The Undrained Shear Strength of Overconsolidated Clays

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2014
AbstractThe paper presents results of laboratory unconfined and confined shear tests. Tests were conducted on samples of clays taken from depth 100-300 meters below ground level. All confined tests were performed in triaxial apparatus following TXCIU procedure. Selected samples were tested in overconsolidation state.

Undrained Stability of Unsupported Rectangular Excavations: Anisotropy and Non-Homogeneity in 3D

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
The stability of unsupported rectangular excavations in undrained clay is examined under the influence of anisotropy and heterogeneity using the three-dimensional finite element upper and lower bound limit analysis with the Anisotropic Undrained Shear ...

Analysis of piezocone penetration under different drainage conditions with the two-phase Material Point Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The piezocone penetration test (CPTU) is commonly used to identify the soil profile and to estimate material properties. Depending on the soil type, ranging from clay to sand, undrained, partially drained or drained conditions may occur during cone ...

Predicting shear strength mobilization of London clay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
When designing geotechnical structures engineers need to assign soil parameters. Soil design parameters are often inferred through correlations with basic site investigation data.

Uncertainty of Mobilized Undrained Shear Strength

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1992
ABSTRACT A method for analyzing the uncertainties involving the use of empirical relationships in design is developed. It is applied to evaluate the reliability of the relationship su(mobilized)=0.22σ’p(measured), whereby the pertinent uncertainties are analyzed using extensive laboratory and field observed data. On the average, the relationship su (

Undrained Shear Strength of Frozen Unsaturated Silts

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
This study focuses on investigation of the undrained shear strength of unsaturated frozen silts prepared at varying initial thermal and hydraulic conditions. The initial degree of saturation controls ice and unfrozen water contents at temperatures below depression point.

Experimental study on effect of temperature on shear behavior of saturated clays

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
The effect of temperature on shear behavior of saturated clays is investigated by means of the temperature-controlled triaxial tests. Two kinds of normally consolidated saturated clays are tested.

Anisotropic creep model for soft soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper a new anisotropic model for time-dependent behaviour of soft soils is presented. The formulation is based on a previously developed isotropic creep model, assuming rotated Modified Cam Clay ellipses as contours of volumetric creep strain ...

Numerical Investigation of Dynamic Pipe-Soil Interaction on Electrokinetic-Treated Soft Clay Soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
© 2019 American Society of Civil Engineers. Researchers have underscored the importance for a pipeline to safeguard against adverse effects resulting from its displacement in the vertical, axial, and lateral directions because of the low shear strength ...

Strength Improvement of Soft Soil Treated Using Stone Columns [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2015
A total number of 12 models tests were carried out on models of soft clays of different values of undrained shear strength varying from 8 to 18 kPa. The tests consist of twelve models of stone columns, single column, two-column group, three-column group,
