Approaching the Limits of Strength: Measuring the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Diamond at Small Scales

Nano Letters, 2015
Diamond ⟨100⟩- and ⟨111⟩-oriented nanopillars were fabricated by focused ion beam (FIB) milling from synthetic single crystals and compressed using a larger diameter diamond punch. Uniaxial compressive failure was observed via fracture with a plateau in maximum stress of ∼0.25 TPa, the highest uniaxial strength yet measured.

Prediction of The Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Rocks Materials

2018
This study briefly will review determining UCS including direct and indirect methods including regression model soft computing techniques such as fuzzy interface system (FIS), artifical neural network (ANN) and least sqeares support vector machine (LS-SVM). These has advantages and disadvantages of these methods were discussed in term predicting UCS of

MWD technique to estimate the uniaxial compressive strength of rocks

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020
The measurement of mechanical properties of rocks is an essential task to be carried out during the projects involving the rock engineering activities such as civil constructions, tunneling, excavations etc. Although the quantification of uniaxial compressive strength in the laboratory is much faithful, the availability of rock samples and their ...

Study on the Relation between Uniaxial Compressive Strength and Point Load Strength

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
In order to investigate the relation between uniaxial compressive strength and point load strength, several homogeneous rock specimens were tested, and the influence of the different rock type was investigated using regression analysis and the derived equations were statistically tested.

Strength and deformation of concrete in uniaxial tension and compression

Magazine of Concrete Research, 1970
Synopsis The paper examines the influence of mix parameters upon the strength and deformation of plain concrete subjected to uniaxial tensile or compressive stress. Parameters considered are the effective water/cement ratio, aggregate/cement ratio, aggregate maximum size and grading defined in terms of mean particle size, and the strength, elastic ...

Experimental study on uniaxial compressive strength of reservoir ice

Transactions of Tianjin University, 2012
Uniaxial compression experiments on horizontal and vertical samples of first-year freshwater ice in a reservoir were conducted at different temperatures and strain rates with an electronic universal machine equipped with low temperature cabinet. The results show that there is no difference between the strengths of two horizontal samples with grain ...

Short-time strength of reinforced plastics in uniaxial compression

Polymer Mechanics, 1972
The short-time compressive strength of one-way and two-way reinforced plastics compressed in the direction of the axes of elastic symmetry has been theoretically and experimentally investigated with allowance for the mechanical properties of the components and the orientation of the fracture (shear) plane.
