Influence of Uniaxial Loading on the Strength of Slender Columns

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2016
A column is said to be slender if its cross-sectional dimensions are small compared with its length, and its strength is reduced by second-order deformations. Several methods are available for slender column design including codes and researchers.

Fatigue behavior of laminated composites with a circular hole under in-plane uniaxial random loading

open access: yes, 2012
A modified fiber failure fatigue model is presented to evaluate the behavior of laminated composites with a central circular hole under in-plane uniaxial random/block loading.

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.

Research on energy evolution characteristics and stability of coal pillar-roof structure

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
The occurrence of coal mine accidents is mostly caused by the instability and failure of the coal pillar and its overlying roof rock layer. To study the influence of different coal-rock height ratios on the deformation failure and energy evolution ...

Influence of Si Content and Milling Duration on the Microstructure and Mechanical–Tribological Properties of AlCoCrFeNiSi High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

Scaling Of Discrete Element Model Parameters In Uniaxial Test Simulation

open access: yes, 2013
This study investigates the scaling of DEM model parameters that are necessary to produce scale independent predictions for cohesionless and cohesive solid under confined compression and unconfined compression to failure.

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...

Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties, Failure Behavior and Energy Evolution of Different Coal-Rock Combined Specimens

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
To investigate the effect of the pure coal/rock strength on the mechanical behavior, failure behavior, and energy evolution of coal-rock combined (CRC) specimens, an AG-X250 Shimadzu Precision Universal Test was used to conduct uniaxial compressive ...

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.
