Process evaluation of an integrated personalized eHealth programme after total and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty—Results of the multicenter ACTIVE randomized controlled trial

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Patients receiving knee arthroplasty often experience limited guidance in resuming daily life activities. The ACTIVE (enhAncing soCietal parTicipation with an IndiVidualized integratEd care programme) trial evaluated the effectiveness of an intervention designed to enhance recovery and return to daily activities in working‐age knee ...

Early Economic Evaluation Demonstrates That Noncomputerized Tomography Robotic-Assisted Surgery Is Cost-Effective in Patients Undergoing Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty at High-Volume Orthopaedic Centres

open access: yesAdvances in Orthopedics, 2020
Background. For over fifty years, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) has been used to treat single-compartment osteoarthritis of the knee and is considered a safe alternative to total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

The Application of Telemedicine in Surgery

open access: yesMed Research, EarlyView.
This figure provides an overview of the content presented in this article. Telemedicine is integrated throughout the entire surgical workflow, with distinct applications across the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. These applications are enabled by a suite of supporting technologies, while the associated implementation challenges ...

Introducing a day-case arthroplasty pathway significantly reduces overall length of stay

open access: yesBone & Joint Open, 2021
Aims: Day-case arthroplasty is gaining popularity in Europe. We report outcomes from the first 12 months following implementation of a day-case pathway for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) in an NHS hospital ...

Standardized loads acting in knee implants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The loads acting in knee joints must be known for improving joint replacement, surgical procedures, physiotherapy, biomechanical computer simulations, and to advise patients with osteoarthritis or fractures about what activities to avoid. Such data would

Can Knee Arthroscopy Be Considered Entirely Safe for Patients Over 50 Years Old With no Risk of Osteonecrosis? Case Series and Literature Review on Post‐Artrhoscopy Osteonecrosis of the Knee (PAONK)

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1378-1388, May 2025.
Post‐arthroscopy osteonecrosis is a rare complication occurring in 0.82% of cases, primarily affecting patients over 50 with degenerative meniscal tears. Early detection through MRI and conservative treatment, including bisphosphonates and weight‐bearing avoidance, proved effective in most cases, while some required surgical intervention.

Varus kinematics at knee flexion affect clinical outcomes of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: Intraoperative navigation-based kinematics evaluation

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation and Technology, 2020
Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of navigation-based varus or axial rotational alignment through knee flexion on patient reported outcomes or the maximum flexion angle of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA).

Functional improvement of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty compared with total knee arthroplasty for subchondral insufficiency fracture of the knee

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Subchondral insufficiency fracture of the knee (SIFK) causes acute knee pain in adults and often requires surgical management. Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are the two most common surgical treatments for SIFK.

Population level data on aging in periodontal and peri‐implant health—Aging is not a contraindication for periodontal or peri‐implant therapy

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Global population aging is leading to a greater retention of natural teeth into later life and an increasing prevalence of dental implant therapy. Although advanced age has traditionally been regarded as a risk factor for compromised outcomes, population level evidence remains lacking.
