Robust clustering methods: a unified view
IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 1997Clustering methods need to be robust if they are to be useful in practice. In this paper, we analyze several popular robust clustering methods and show that they have much in common. We also establish a connection between fuzzy set theory and robust statistics, and point out the similarities between robust clustering methods and statistical methods ...

Unifying fuzzy concept lattice construction methods
2016 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE), 2016Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) and its fuzzy extension have been widely used to arrange data into a lattice that is an effective data structure useful to address several aims, such as: data mining, ontology learning and merging, and so on. In literature it is possible to distinguish two main approaches to address fuzzy FCA implementation: the one-sided ...

In this research article, we investigate the coupled breaking soliton (cBS) model using two distinct analytical methods, namely, the Lie symmetry approach and the Unified method.

Penalty and Barrier Methods: A Unified Framework
SIAM Journal on Optimization, 1999Summary: It is established that many optimization problems may be formulated in terms of minimizing a function \(x\rightarrow f_0 (x) + H_\infty(f_1 (x), f_2 (x),\ldots,f_m (x)) + L_\infty(Ax-b)\), where the \(f_i\) are closed functions defined on \(\mathbb{R}^N\), and where \(H_\infty\) and \(L_\infty\) are the recession functions of closed, proper ...

Masked Minimizers: Unifying sequence sketching methods
2022AbstractMinimizers and syncmers are sequence sketching methods that extract representative substrings from a long sequence. We show that both these sampling rules are different instantiations of a new unifying concept we call masked minimizers, which applies a sub-sampling binary mask on a minimizer sketch.

A Unified Approach to Sequential Constructive Methods
1999A general treatment of a particular class of learning techniques for neural networks, called sequential constructive methods, is proposed. They subsequently add units to the hidden layer until all the input-output relations contained in a given training set are satisfied.
