Control structures for the unified power flow controller

IECON 2014 - 40th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2014
The basic principles of UPFC operation are discussed and the series inverter dynamics are explained. Two control strategies — the Cross-Coupling method and the Advanced Control method are discussed in detail and their bode plots are analyzed. The two control methods are implemented in PSCAD for the NYPA UPFC at Marcy substation.

Basic control of unified power flow controller

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1997
A unified power flow controller (UPFC) is a typical FACTS device capable of instantaneous control of three power system parameters. This paper presents a basic control system which enables the UPFC to follow the changes in reference values of the active and reactive power supplied from the outer system controller.

Dynamic control of a unified power flow controller

PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2002
The performance of a unified power flow controller (UPFC) with four different controllers is evaluated through simulation and implementation in an experimental laboratory model. The controllers which were investigated are the PI controller, PI controller with decoupling, cross-coupling controller and robust H/spl infin/ controller. It is found that the

Investigation of a unified power flow controller

IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1999
Power flow in an AC transmission system depends on three basic parameters: transmission line impedance, voltage magnitude and phase angle. Maximum utilisation of the power system can be ensured by the control of these parameters in real-time. It is shown experimentally that a unified power flow controller (UPFC) can control each of the parameters ...
