Continuity of extremal elements in uniformly convex spaces [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2009
In this paper, we study the problem of finding the extremal element for a linear functional over a uniformly convex Banach space. We show that a unique extremal element exists and depends continuously on the linear functional, and vice versa. Using this, we simplify and clarify Ryabykh's proof that for any linear functional on a uniformly convex ...

Zone diagrams in compact subsets of uniformly convex normed spaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv.org, 2010
A zone diagram is a relatively new concept which has emerged in computational geometry and is related to Voronoi diagrams. Formally, it is a fixed point of a certain mapping, and neither its uniqueness nor its existence are obvious in advance.

Uniformly convex operators and martingale type

open access: yes, 2002
The concept of uniform convexity of a Banach space was generalized to linear operators between Banach spaces and studied by Beauzamy [1976]. Under this generalization, a Banach space X is uniformly convex if and only if its identity map I_X is.

The coarse geometric Novikov conjecture and uniform convexity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The coarse geometric Novikov conjecture provides an algorithm to determine when the higher index of an elliptic operator on a noncompact space is nonzero.

Hybrid Projection Algorithm for Two Countable Families of Hemirelatively Nonexpansive Mappings and Applications

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
Two countable families of hemirelatively nonexpansive mappings are considered based on a hybrid projection algorithm. Strong convergence theorems of iterative sequences are obtained in an uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space.

Some strongly bounded classes of Banach spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We show that the classes of separable reflexive Banach spaces and of spaces with separable dual are strongly bounded. This gives a new proof of a recent result of E. Odell and Th.

Convergence theorems for generalized nonexpansive mappings in uniformly convex Banach spaces

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we prove strong and weak convergence theorems for a mapping defined on a bounded, closed and convex subset of a uniformly convex Banach space, satisfying the RCSC condition. This condition was introduced by Karapınar (Dynamical Systems and

Mann-Type Viscosity Approximation Methods for Multivalued Variational Inclusions with Finitely Many Variational Inequality Constraints in Banach Spaces

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
We introduce Mann-type viscosity approximation methods for finding solutions of a multivalued variational inclusion (MVVI) which are also common ones of finitely many variational inequality problems and common fixed points of a countable family of ...

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Simulation of Inhomogeneous Refractive Index Fields Induced by Hot Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a simulation model for simulating inhomogeneous refractive index fields (IRIF) in hot‐forged components, accounting for thermal influences and complex geometries. Through this simulation, a priori knowledge about the propagation of the IRIF can be obtained, allowing for the positioning of the component or an optical measurement ...
