On perturbations of the isometric semigroup of shifts on the semiaxis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study perturbations $(\tilde\tau_t)_{t\ge 0}$ of the semigroup of shifts $(\tau_t)_{t\ge 0}$ on $L^2(\R_+)$ with the property that $\tilde\tau_t - \tau_t$ belongs to a certain Schatten-von Neumann class $\gS_p$ with $p\ge 1$.

Hippocampal Chandelier Cells Modulate Seizure Susceptibility and Severity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
The axon initial segment (AIS), crucial for action potential initiation, serves as a prime locus for controlling network activity. Chandelier Cells (ChCs), evolved in the mammals, intricately target AISs, acting as gatekeepers for neuronal firing. Diminishing ChC input makes animals more prone to developing seizures, whereas fortifying this connection ...

Nonlinear waves in Newton's cradle and the discrete p-Schroedinger equation

open access: yes, 2010
We study nonlinear waves in Newton's cradle, a classical mechanical system consisting of a chain of beads attached to linear pendula and interacting nonlinearly via Hertz's contact forces.

Fractional calculus and continuous-time finance II: the waiting-time distribution

open access: yes, 2000
We complement the theory of tick-by-tick dynamics of financial markets based on a Continuous-Time Random Walk (CTRW) model recently proposed by Scalas et al., and we point out its consistency with the behaviour observed in the waiting-time distribution ...

General theory for integer-type algorithm for higher order differential equations

open access: yes, 2010
Based on functional analysis, we propose an algorithm for finite-norm solutions of higher-order linear Fuchsian-type ordinary differential equations (ODEs) P(x,d/dx)f(x)=0 with P(x,d/dx):=[\sum_m p_m (x) (d/dx)^m] by using only the four arithmetical ...

Laplace-Laplace analysis of the fractional Poisson process

open access: yes, 2012
We generate the fractional Poisson process by subordinating the standard Poisson process to the inverse stable subordinator. Our analysis is based on application of the Laplace transform with respect to both arguments of the evolving probability ...

Significance of foundation-soil separation in dynamic soil-structure interaction [PDF]

open access: yes
THe dynamic response of flexible surface strip-foundations allowed to uplift is numerically obtained for externally applied forces of a transient time variation. The soil medium is represented by an isotropic, homogeneous and linear half-space.

LINEAR DISCRETE CONVOLUTION AND ITS INVERSE. PART 1. CONVOLUTION [PDF]

open access: yes
We present here several ways of calculating the linear discrete convolution, its inverse - the deconvolution, by direct methods, generator functions, Z-transform, using matrices and MATLAB.

Modified Whittle estimation of multilateral models on a lattice. [PDF]

open access: yes
In the estimation of parametric models for stationary spatial or spatio-temporal data on a d-dimensional lattice, for d≥2, the achievement of asymptotic efficiency under Gaussianity, and asymptotic normality more generally, with standard convergence rate,

Effects of unilateral sciatic neurectomy on growing rat femur as assessed by peripheral quantitative computed tomography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and bending test

open access: yesEffects of unilateral sciatic neurectomy on growing rat femur as assessed by peripheral quantitative computed tomography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and bending test
We studied the effects of unilateral sciatic neurectomy (USN) on the development of the femoral shaft in the 30 growing Wistar-derived rats aged 5 weeks. Rats were allocated to three groups. One of these was immediately used for measurements, and the remaining 2 groups underwent USN of internal control.
