Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy [PDF]
Acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUV) is the recommended term (rather than the more widely used vestibular neuritis) for all pathologies involving sudden impairment of the unilateral peripheral vestibular function regardless of the exact location of the ...

Associations Between Bipedal Stance Stability and Locomotor Stability Following a Trip in Unilateral Vestibulopathy [PDF]
Posturography is used to assess balance in clinical settings, but its relationship to gait stability is unclear. We assessed if dynamic gait stability is associated with standing balance in 12 patients with unilateral vestibulopathy.

47629 Contribution of Auditory Function to Falls Risk in Adults with Vestibulopathy
IMPACT: Findings from this study will better characterize the role of hearing loss in falls risk among patients with vestibulopathy and identify groups that are most at risk for falls.

Functional Dissociation Between Cervical VEMP and Posterior Canal vHIT in 1770 Unselected Ears
Cervical VEMP and posterior canal vHIT are conventionally treated as measures of a single inferior vestibular unit. In 1770 unselected ears from a diagnosis‐agnostic registry, the two tests disagreed in 72.7% of ears abnormal on at least one test, with chance‐corrected agreement near zero (κ = 0.097) and unchanged across age strata.

A systematic review on balance performance in patients with bilateral vestibulopathy [PDF]
: Objective Patients with bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP) have severe balance deficits, but it is unclear which balance measures are best suited to quantify their deficits and approximate the diversity of their self-reports.

Factors Associated With Bilateral Involvement in Non‐Infectious Labyrinthitis: A Case–Control Study
Non‐infectious labyrinthitis may progress from unilateral to bilateral inner‐ear involvement, resulting in greater functional impairment. In this retrospective case–control study of 50 patients, younger age, female sex, and the presence of systemic disease were associated with bilateral involvement. These exploratory findings may help identify patients

Unveiling Otolith Mystery: Contemporary Testing Approaches and Their Clinical Significance
ABSTRACT Objective Otolith is a critical component of the peripheral vestibular system responsible for detecting linear acceleration. Dysfunction of the otolith organs can lead to vertigo, balance disturbances, and gaze instability. By elucidating the physiological foundations and evaluating both current and emerging methods for assessing otolith ...

Visual and proprioceptive contributions to postural control of upright stance in unilateral vestibulopathy [PDF]
Preserving upright stance requires central integration of the sensory systems and appropriate motor output from the neuromuscular system to keep the centre of pressure (COP) within the base of support. Unilateral peripheral vestibular disorder (UPVD) causes diminished stance stability.
