Terrain Synthesis and Authoring based on Iso‐Contours

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Digital terrains are central to realistic landscape depiction, yet authoring tools must balance perceptual realism with intuitive artistic control. We propose a compact vector‐based representation that models terrain as nested iso‐contours, inspired by geomorphology and cartography.

Non‐Rigid 3D Shape Correspondences: From Foundations to Open Challenges and Opportunities

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Estimating correspondences between deformed shape instances is a long‐standing problem in computer graphics; numerous applications, from texture transfer to statistical modelling, rely on recovering an accurate correspondence map. Many methods have thus been proposed to tackle this challenging problem from varying perspectives, depending on ...

As‐Rigid‐As‐Possible Regularization for Implicit Surfaces

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Implicit surface representations have regained popularity because of their use in machine learning. A common component in optimization is regularization, penalizing the deviation of the surface from its original shape. The popular as‐rigid‐as‐possible (Arap) energy strikes a good compromise between realistic deformation behavior and efficient ...

On Bending in the As‐Rigid‐As‐Possible Deformation Energy

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract The well‐established As‐Rigid‐As‐Possible (ARAP) energy has various forms. For surface deformation, commonly used energies contain an implicit bending penalty. We present a natural, continuous generalization that incorporates multiple ARAP versions with an implicit, user‐controllable bending penalty.

Frequency‐Aware Spatial‐Angular Gaussians for Efficient Global Illumination Precomputation and Real‐Time Rendering

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Precomputation and efficient approximate material models are well‐known approaches for achieving real‐time rendering with global illumination. Recent research in radiance fields and in particular 3D Gaussian Splatting has demonstrated the power of Gaussian primitives both to represent radiance and for fast optimization.
