Boundary unique continuation for a class of elliptic equations

American Journal of Mathematics, 2021
:We establish results on unique continuation at the boundary for the solutions of real analytic elliptic partial differential equations of the form $Lu=\Delta u+a(x,y)\partial_{x}u+b(x,y)\partial_{y}u+c(x,y)u=0$ in two dimensions.

Unique continuation and lifting of spectral band edges of Schrödinger operators on unbounded domains

Journal of Spectral Theory, 2020
We prove and apply two theorems: First, a quantitative, scale-free unique continuation estimate for functions in a spectral subspace of a Schrödinger operator on a bounded or unbounded domain; second, a perturbation and lifting estimate for edges of the ...

On the Uniqueness of the Continuation for a Thermoelasticity System

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2001
The author deals with the lateral Cauchy problem for a thermoelasticity system, descibing combined elastic and thermal effects in plates. The system is strongly coupled and has an ``upper triangular'' principal structure. Sufficient conditions are given for uniqueness by combining new Carleman estimates with additional large parameter \(\lambda\) for ...

Continuous quantification of uniqueness and stereoscopic vision

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
In this paper we introduce the concept of continuous quantification of uniqueness. Our approach is to construct an algorithm that computes a fuzzy set membership function, which given any inter-object dissimilarity metric and it's variability, measures the probability that an entity of interest will not be confused with other similar entities in a ...

Unique Continuation for Continuous CR Functions

The Journal of Geometric Analysis
The main objective of this paper is the unique continuation of continuous CR functions defined on smooth CR manifolds embedded in complex spaces. Given a point \(p\) of a CR manifold \(M\), let \(\Omega(M, p)\) be the CR orbit of all points in \(M\) connected to \(p\) through some piecewise CR curve.

Strict Monotonicity of Eigenvalues and Unique Continuation

Communications in Partial Differential Equations, 1992
In this paper, we show that the strict mononicity of the eigen-values of an uniformly elliptic operator of second order is equivalent to a unique continuation property.

Unique continuation in geometry

Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, 1988
We give a new elementary proof that the solutions of certain second-order elliptic systems have the unique continuation property. The proof uses a scaling device used in geometric measure theory. Also, an example is given showing that unique continuation fails for simple elliptic systems whose leading symbol is not diagonal.

Uniqueness of Continuation Theorems

2000
We prove a sharp uniqueness of continuation result for two classical systems of partial differential equations. The proof is based on a special Carleman type estimate developed by Tataru.
