Unique Solutions in Data Exchange

2014
Data exchange is the problem of transforming data structured according to a source schema into data structured according to a target schema, via a mapping specified by rules in the form of source-to-target tuple generating dependencies. In this context, given a source instance and a mapping, there might be more than one valid target instance that ...

UNIQUENESS OF GROUND STATE SOLUTIONS

Acta Mathematica Scientia, 1988
Summary: We discuss the uniqueness of ground state solutions of the problem \[ \Delta u+f(u)=0\quad in\quad R^ n;\quad u(x)\to 0\quad as\quad | x| \to \infty, \] where \(N>2\), f(u) satisfies some conditions which ensure the existence of a ground state solution.

On the uniqueness of solutions to linear programs

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 2002
Summary: We provide a constructive method of checking whether a linear programming problem (LPP) has a unique feasible or a unique optimal solution. Our method requires the solution of only one extra LPP such that the original problem has alternative solutions if and only if the optimal value of the new LPP is positive.

The Probability of Unique Solutions of Sequencing by Hybridization

Journal of Computational Biology, 1994
We determine the asymptotic limiting probability as m-->infinity that a random string of length m over some alphabet sigma can be determined uniquely by its substrings of length l. This is an abstraction of a problem faced when trying to sequence DNA clones by SBH.

Partial Solutions with Unique Completion

2006
In this paper we investigate the computational complexity of combinatorial problems with givens, i.e., partial solutions, and where a unique solution is required. Examples for this article are taken from the games of Sudoku, N-queens and related games.

ON UNIQUENESS OF THE SOLUTION OF BELLMAN'S EQUATION

Mathematics of the USSR-Izvestiya, 1971
Theorems on the uniqueness of the solution of Bellman's equation in Sobolev classes are considered. Theorems on passing to the limit in such equations are proved.

Formulation, Uniqueness, and Solution Strategies

1989
The essential equations of the linear theory of elasticity have been derived. Restated concisely are the equilibrium conditions, the kinematic relations with the compatibility constraints, and the constitutive law for isotropic materials. These equations are combined in force, displacement, and mixed formulations.

Existence and Uniqueness of Solutions

1992
Recall the inhomogeneous system (I) of k linear equations in n unknowns, which we studied in Chapter 4.4. We consider the case k = n, where the number of equations to be solved equals the number of unknowns, and we shall use our results about bases in ℝ n in the preceding chapter to study the question of existence and uniqueness of solutions of the ...
