Risk-based Unit Commitment

2007 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2007
In this paper, a risk-based unit commitment (RBUC) approach for the day-ahead market is introduced. A risk-based economic dispatch, an independent part of the risk- based unit commitment, can be used for the real-time market. This provides for consideration of both economic benefit as well as reliability within a single integrated approach.

Short term unit commitment

Proceedings of the 39th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2002
In this paper, an algorithm based on a heuristic approach has been developed to perform short term unit commitment. The proposed algorithm consists of several reasoning loops to generate a schedule that satisfies all given constraints. The decisions from these loops are based on a partial priority list method and some appropriate heuristic rules.

Cooperative Coevolutionary Algorithm for Unit Commitment

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002
This paper presents a new cooperative coevolutionary algorithm (CCA) for power system unit commitment. CCA is an extension of the traditional genetic algorithm (GA) which appears to have considerable potential for formulating and solving more complex problems by explicitly modeling the coevolution of cooperating species.

MULTILEVEL UNIT COMMITMENT IN SMART GRIDS

Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Operations Research and Enterprise Systems, 2012
This paper focuses on the planning of electricity resources in the developing electricity infrastructure. First we model the existing infrastructure and extend this model to a smart grid infrastructure, where we focus on the large scale introduction of small electricity generators, leading to generation possibilities at both ends of the electricity ...

An Analytic Approach to Unit Commitment

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract Unit commitment in electric power systems is a mixed integer programming problem which because of its high complexity has been approached primarily through numerical methods. Few general analytic results exist which shed light on the manner in which units are committed.

Security Constrained Unit Commitment

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1971
A method is described for determining the most economical generating utiit commitment policy and loading schedule for a day's operation of an electric utility system while maintaining a desired level of system reliability.

Unit Commitment With Ideal and Generic Energy Storage Units

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2014
Intermittence and variability of renewable resources is often a barrier to their large scale integration into power systems. We propose a stochastic real-time unit commitment to deal with the stochasticity and intermittence of non-dispatchable renewable resources including ideal and generic energy storage devices.

Unit commitment using stochastic optimization

Proceedings of International Conference on Intelligent System Application to Power Systems, 2002
This paper demonstrates how the simulated annealing algorithm and genetic algorithms can be used as means to solve the power system unit commitment problem. In addition, this paper presents parallel approaches to speed up the computational requirement of the simulated annealing algorithm. The algorithms were tested with two different problems.

Unit commitment by simulated annealing

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1990
A general optimization method, known as simulated annealing, is applied to generation unit commitment. By exploiting the resemblance between a minimization process and the cooling of a molten metal, simulated annealing generates feasible solutions randomly and moves among these solutions using a strategy leading to a global minimum with high ...

Unit commitment by genetic algorithms

IEEE PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2004., 2005
This paper presents an application of the genetic algorithms (GA) method for the unit commitment problem. Genetic algorithms (GA's) are a general purpose optimization technique based on principle of natural selection and natural genetics. The Lagrangian relaxation (LR) method provides a fast solution but it may suffer from numerical convergence and ...
