Unit commitment by simulated annealing

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1990
A general optimization method, known as simulated annealing, is applied to generation unit commitment. By exploiting the resemblance between a minimization process and the cooling of a molten metal, simulated annealing generates feasible solutions randomly and moves among these solutions using a strategy leading to a global minimum with high ...

Unit commitment by genetic algorithms

IEEE PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2004., 2005
This paper presents an application of the genetic algorithms (GA) method for the unit commitment problem. Genetic algorithms (GA's) are a general purpose optimization technique based on principle of natural selection and natural genetics. The Lagrangian relaxation (LR) method provides a fast solution but it may suffer from numerical convergence and ...

Genetic-based unit commitment algorithm

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1996
This paper presents a new unit commitment scheduling algorithm. The proposed algorithm consist of using a genetic algorithm with domain specific mutation operators. The proposed algorithm can easily accommodate any constraint that can be true costed.

A Fuel-Constrained Unit Commitment Method

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1989
A short-term fuel-constrained thermal unit commitment method which includes significant constraints such as take-or-pay gas contracts and limitations associated with the gas delivery system is described. The fuel constraints are explicitly considered in determining the short-term (e.g., daily, weekly) thermal unit commitment strategy.

Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch

2017
This chapter describes and formulates three important problems for the economic management of power systems, namely, the Unit Commitment (UC), the Economic Dispatch (ED), and the Network Constrained Unit Commitment (NCUC) problems. The UC problem determines the commitment of generating units with the aim of minimizing operating costs while supplying ...

The generalized unit commitment problem

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1995
The authors formulate a generalized version of the unit commitment problem that can treat minimum up- and down-time constraints, power flow constraints, line flow limits, voltage limits, reserve constraints, ramp limits, and total fuel and energy limits on hydro and thermal power generating units.
