A Discussion of Weighting Procedures for Unit Nonresponse
Abstract Weighting procedures are commonly applied in surveys to compensate for nonsampling errors such as nonresponse errors and coverage errors. Two types of weight-adjustment procedures are commonly used in the context of unit nonresponse: (i) nonresponse propensity weighting followed by calibration, also known as the two-step ...

IntroductionUnit non-response is a common phenomenon in online teaching evaluation in higher education institutions. However, little is known about the relationship between the rates of unit non-response and the quality of online teaching evaluation ...

Diagnostic and prognostic ability of urinary NGAL in patients with cirrhosis and AKI. Abstract Background and Aims Acute kidney injury (AKI) commonly occurs in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Urinary neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (uNGAL) could help discriminate between different etiologies of AKI.

Oversampling in Relation to Differential Regional Response Rates
Response rates of face-to-face surveys often show regional variation. In larger cities e.g., response typically will be lower than in smaller villages.

Against All Odds: On the Robustness of Probability Samples Against Decreases in Response Rates
Responses rates in surveys with probability samples have decreased in the last decades, but has this decrease caused a decline in sample quality? Our paper addresses this question with an analysis of methodological data describing 776 surveys from four ...

Continuity Trumps? The Impact of Interviewer Change on Item Nonresponse
Allocating the same interviewer to each respondent over multiple waves is typically recommended for panel surveys. While some studies have investigated the effect of this strategy on unit nonresponse, there is scarce empirical evidence on how interviewer

Patterns of Unit and Item Nonresponse in the CAHPS® Hospital Survey [PDF]
Objective. To examine the predictors of unit and item nonresponse, the magnitude of nonresponse bias, and the need for nonresponse weights in the Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Hospital Survey.Methods. A common set of 11 administrative variables (41 degrees of freedom) was used to predict unit nonresponse and the ...

Providing double protection for unit nonresponse with a nonlinear calibration-weighting routine
Given a randomly drawn sample, calibration weighting can provide double protection against the selection bias resulting from unit nonresponse. This means that if either an assumed linear prediction model or an implied unit selection model holds, the ...

Implementation of the forced answering option within online surveys: Do higher item response rates come at the expense of participation and answer quality? [PDF]
Online surveys have become a popular method for data gathering for many reasons, including low costs and the ability to collect data rapidly. However, online data collection is often conducted without adequate attention to implementation details.

Estimating Engel curves under unit and item nonresponse [PDF]
SUMMARYThis paper estimates food Engel curves using data from the first wave of the Survey on Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Our statistical model simultaneously takes into account selectivity due to unit and item nonresponse, endogeneity problems, and issues related to flexible specification of the relationship of interest.
