Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Closed derivation on the unit square [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, 1986
In this paper we extend Kurose's structure theorem to characterize a closed derivation in the algebra of continuous functions on the unit square, under the conditions that the range is the whole algebra and the kernel is the set of all functions depend only on the second variable, as a partial derivative with respect to signed measures on the unit ...

The "Game about Squares" is NP-hard [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the "Game about Squares" the task is to push unit squares on an integer lattice onto corresponding dots. A square can only be moved into one given direction. When a square is pushed onto a lattice point with an arrow the direction of the square adopts

Testing stability in a spatial unilateral autoregressive model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Least squares estimator of the stability parameter $\varrho := |\alpha| + |\beta|$ for a spatial unilateral autoregressive process $X_{k,\ell}=\alpha X_{k-1,\ell}+\beta X_{k,\ell-1}+\varepsilon_{k,\ell}$ is investigated.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Scaled unscented transformation method and adaptive Monte Carlo method used for effects of fault parameters estimation on green function matrix in slip distribution inversion

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2020
The elements of Green function matrix are the nonlinear functions of fault parameters estimation, the randomness of fault parameters estimation causes that the slip distribution inversion turns to be the parameter estimation problem of total least ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

3-Oxo-3-(piperidin-1-yl)propanenitrile

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2012
In the title compound, C8H12N2O, the piperidine ring exhibits a chair conformation and its least-squares plane (all atoms) makes a dihedral angle of 32.88 (12)° with the propanenitrile unit (r.m.s. deviation = 0.001 Å

Integrability vs non-integrability: Hard hexagons and hard squares compared

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we compare the integrable hard hexagon model with the non-integrable hard squares model by means of partition function roots and transfer matrix eigenvalues.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
