Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

On the social induction of Alzheimer's disease: An index theorem aging model for amyloid formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The central 'risk factor' for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is age. From first principles, we construct a mathematical model of protein folding and its in vivo regulation that gives this result in a natural manner.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
