Toxic epidermal necrolysis is the most severe form of drug-induced skin reaction and includes denudation of >30% of total body surface area. The mechanism of disease is not completely understood, but immunologic mechanisms, cytotoxic reactions, and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Metabolism of chylomicrons by the isolated rat liver
Isolated livers perfused with washed corn oil chylomicrons labeled in vivo with palmitic acid-1-14C removed a large proportion of the chylomicrons. Slices from these livers oxidized chylomicron fatty acid esters to both carbon dioxide and acetoacetate ...

We define and study the invariance properties of homological units. Some applications are given to the derived invariance of Hodge numbers. In particular, we prove that if X and Y are derived equivalent smooth projective varieties of dimension 4 having the same Picard number, then they have the same Hodge numbers.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Roots of Progress: Uncovering Cerebellar Ataxias Using iPSC Models
The inaccessibility of human cerebellar tissue and the complexity of its development have historically hindered the study of cerebellar ataxias, a genetically diverse group of neurodegenerative disorders.

ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Broadband continuous-wave GaSb-based superluminescent diodes emitting at 2.1 μm
We report development of GaSb-based superluminescent diodes (SLDs) emitting around 2.1 μm wavelength for applications in sensing and non-destructive imaging benefitting from broad and smooth spectra with low modulation depth ripples.
