Spatial Prediction of Coastal Bathymetry Based on Multispectral Satellite Imagery and Multibeam Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2015
The coastal shallow water zone can be a challenging and costly environment in which to acquire bathymetry and other oceanographic data using traditional survey methods.

Structure identification methods for atomistic simulations of crystalline materials

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss existing and new computational analysis techniques to classify local atomic arrangements in large-scale atomistic computer simulations of crystalline solids. This article includes a performance comparison of typical analysis algorithms such as

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

The number of phosphorus loss events will increase with variability and seasonality in far future climate scenarios

open access: yesScientific Reports
Climate change is likely to add further pressures to water quality degradation across the globe. The development of robust climate-smart mitigation measures necessitates understanding the impact of extreme hydrological events on catchment hydrology and ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Evaporative cooling exceeded albedo-induced warming in greening areas of global drylands

open access: yesScientific Reports
Greening plays a key role in surface-atmosphere energy exchanges, exerting feedback on the climate. While several studies have examined greening feedback in forested regions, the effect on temperature feedbacks in global drylands remain poorly understood.
