Analysis of the economic viability and environmental impacts of a conceptual process model for the recovery of lactic acid from spent media in cultivated meat production

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract Scaled production of cultivated meat (CM) will co‐produce large volumes of spent media. Recycling of abundant metabolites such as lactic acid in spent media offers an opportunity for valorization and reduction of the carbon footprint of CM production; however, the feasibility has yet to be examined.

Recent Progress of Na3MnTi(PO4)3 Cathode for Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Mechanism, Synthesis, and Optimization Strategy

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Na3MnTi(PO4)3 (NMTP) combines the inherent structural stability and high‐voltage characteristics of NASICON‐type frameworks, positioning it as a highly promising cathode candidate for practical sodium‐ion batteries. To date, substantial progress has been achieved in NMTP research, and this article provides a comprehensive review of its development and ...

Copper(II), a Peculiar Metal Ion for Complexation with Monensin A Ionophore

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Copper(II) forms three chiral and EPR‐active complexes with monensinate A in methanol. Beside the bis [CuL2] and mono [CuL]+ species, the new dinuclear construct [Cu2L]3+ exhibits an [ML]+‐type and a metal salt‐type copper(II) centers weakly bound to each other through counter ion(s) and thus, being magnetically independent.

APE1 Activity is Controlled by Non‐G‐Quadruplex Conformations in Single‐ and Double‐Stranded G‐Quadruplex Constructs

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
G‐quadruplex (G4) folding in DNA is inhibitory to AP endonuclease, although the protein still binds well to G4s. Curiously, partially folded G‐rich sequences, possibly transient hairpins, containing AP are very good substrates for cleavage by APE1. Herein, the enzyme activity and G4 folding are studied in single‐stranded vs. duplex contexts.
