Chemical Properties of an Aryloxenium Cation with a Triplet Electronic Ground State

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Accepted Article.
Aryloxenium cations contain a formally positively‐charged, monovalent oxygen atom with an incomplete electron shell. In spite of this unusual structural element, they are key intermediates in many important processes, such as biological oxidation reactions and the industrial generation of thermoplastics.

Lewis‐X‐Containing Triterpenoid Saponins Inhibit DC‐SIGN‐ and L‐SIGN‐Mediated Transfer of HIV‐1 Infection

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The convergent synthesis of Lewis‐X‐containing betulinic acid and echinocystic acid saponins (1 and 2) is presented. The synthetic saponins were shown to inhibit, at the low micromolar range, the DC‐SIGN‐ and L‐SIGN‐mediated transfer of HIV‐1 infection to CD4‐positive cells, whereas free Lewis‐X, aglycones, and structurally similar triterpenoid ...

The Role of Ion Size and π‐Interaction in Stabilizing Calix[4]arene Crown Ether Metal Complexes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This work investigates MAXCalix's ability to coordinate alkali and alkaline earth metal ions, showing a preference for larger ions like Cs⁺. Structural analysis confirms that π‐interactions with benzene rings enhance stability, particularly for large cations that engage both rings.

Exploring the Modulation of the Complex Folding Landscape of Human Telomeric DNA by a Low Molecular Weight Ligand

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy were utilized to investigate the complex G‐quadruplex folding landscape of the human telomeric DNA in the presence of the ligand Phen‐DC3. Our findings revealed significant differences in the kinetics of the pathways originating from the unfolded or K+‐bound state ...
