Application of Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) for microclimatic analysis in urban thermal environments

Landscape and Urban Planning, 2014
Abstract Microclimatic effects were investigated for human thermal sensation on human bioclimatic maps in summer, 2009 using the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). Study locations were downtown Nanaimo, BC, Canada and Changwon, Republic of Korea. Air temperatures and humidities of several sites were collected at the two locations.

Universal Climate Thermal Index as a prognostic tool in medical science in the context of climate change: A systematic review

Science of the Total Environment, 2022
The assessment of the impact of meteorological factors on the epidemiology of various diseases and on human pathophysiology and physiology requires a comprehensive approach and new tools independent of currently occurring climate change. The thermal comfort index, i.e., Universal Climate Thermal Index (UTCI), is gaining more and more recognition from ...

Utilizando séries temporais diárias de temperatura média do ar, umidade relativa do ar, velocidade do vento e temperatura média radiante, o UTCI ...

Analysis of Universal Thermal Climate Index in Croatia for extreme events

2023
Due to global warming, extreme events increase in frequency and intensity. One of those extreme events are cold and heat waves which affect people causing increased mortality and morbidity. Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) must organize and ensure early warnings of heat and cold waves to reduce the risk and protect the population.

Spatiotemporal changes in Universal Thermal Climate Index in the Middle East and North Africa

Atmospheric Research, 2023
A fast temperature rise has made the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region a global hotspot of extreme heat events. Previous studies conducted in the region to evaluate extreme heat based on temperature were inadequate for assessing heat based on human thermal impacts. The present study employed the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI).

Predicting urban outdoor thermal comfort by the Universal Thermal Climate Index UTCI—a case study in Southern Brazil

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2011
Recognising that modifications to the physical attributes of urban space are able to promote improved thermal outdoor conditions and thus positively influence the use of open spaces, a survey to define optimal thermal comfort ranges for passers-by in pedestrian streets was conducted in Curitiba, Brazil.

Spatial differentiation of China’s summer tourist destinations based on climatic suitability using the Universal Thermal Climate Index

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2017
As a result of global warming and the gradual exacerbation of the urban heat island effect, vacationing in the summer to escape the heat has become a compelling tourism demand. This study examines the spatial differentiation of China’s summer tourist destinations based on meteorological observations and tourism resources data from 1960 to 2014.
