Fungi and Myxomycetes of the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve, Mexico: A Comprehensive Review and Future Perspectives. [PDF]

open access: yesIUBMB Life
ABSTRACT The Tehuacán‐Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, spanning approximately 10,000 km2, is crucial for conserving arid and semi‐arid ecosystems, as it hosts unique endemic species and complex ecological interactions. Despite their environmental significance, fungi and myxomycetes in this region have been understudied, particularly those adapted

Carbon Quantum Dot Optical Properties for potential infiltration into Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fibers

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
First characterization of carbon quantum dots (CQD) optical properties, synthesized using an electrochemical method. Their size distribution is of 5±3 nm, with spherical morphology, and a wide absorption spectrum. The CQD show increased absorption at both high and low frequency. The CQD rotate the polarization state of light at 1550 nm. Abstract Carbon

Disputes between neighbors in Mexican cities during the COVID‐19 pandemic

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, Volume 15, Issue 3, Page 626-643, April 2023., 2023
Abstract We estimate the effect of the COVID‐19 pandemic lockdown on disputes between neighbors using a panel of 70 cities from across Mexico and a difference‐in‐difference strategy. Our results show that the lockdown exacerbated disputes related to pets as nuisances by 45%, noise by 31%, unruly children by 23%, and garbage by 22%.

Microbiota attached to and encapsulated by granulomas dissected from tilapia spleen: A case report

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 96-101, February 2023., 2023
Graphical Abstract Abstract Granulomatous diseases are caused mainly by bacterial infections that the fish immune system cannot eliminate; consequently, pathogens are encapsulated, forming a complex structure where immune cells participate in containing the damage.

Growth and inequality in the Mexican states: Regimes, thresholds, and traps

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 100, Issue 5, Page 1295-1322, October 2021., 2021
Abstract Using the inter‐regional economic inequality index and the gross state product per capita for the Mexican states over the period 1940–2015, we apply regime dynamics and hierarchical cluster analysis for segmenting the sample into regimes of Mexican states with similar performance.

Configuration of Zeros of Isochronous Vector Fields of Degree 5

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
In this paper, we give the algebraic conditions that a configuration of 5 points in the plane must satisfy in order to be the configuration of zeros of a polynomial isochronous vector field. We use the obtained results to analyze configurations having some of its zeros satisfying some particular geometric conditions.

Changes on the Development of Rigor Mortis in Cultured Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Fed with a Mixture of Plant Proteins

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
In recent years it has been pointed out that the feed of farmed fish has an effect on the quality of the final product. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of fishmeal (FM) replacement by a mixture of plant protein (MPP) on the development of rigor mortis of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

Sarcopenia: Influence of Regional Skeletal Muscle Cutoff Points and Fat‐Free Mass in Older Mexican People—A Pilot Study

open access: yesCurrent Gerontology and Geriatrics Research, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Background. Variation in the prevalence of sarcopenia is related to the skeletal muscle index cutoff points applied. The objective of this pilot study was to examine the recruitment process for testing different sarcopenia definitions (ASMI cutoffs) in older Mexican adults.
