Hydrogelation via Supramolecular Copolymerization of Structural Water within Adaptive Metal–Organic Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 31, 2 June 2026.
Structural water is harnessed as an active co‐monomer to drive supramolecular polymerization in bulk water. Zinc(II) Salphen complexes confine water molecules to form hollow, metal–organic nanofibers that assemble into adaptive hydrogels with thermoresponsive mechanics and selective chiral recognition.

Developing Feasible Methods for Incorporating eDNA Sampling in Hydrological Time Series Studies

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) is emerging as a promising hydrological tracer, complementing its established role in ecological monitoring. Here, we develop a feasible and easily realisable method for including eDNA sampling in automated hydrological time‐series sampling. The 3D printable and reusable frames, appropriate for common filter membranes,

Photoionization of resonantly driven atomic states by an extreme ultraviolet-free-electron laser: intensity dependence and renormalization of Rabi frequencies

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
We analyze theoretically the high intensity photoionization dynamics of a system with two atomic states resonantly coupled by coherent extreme ultraviolet laser radiation that also gives rise to the ionization.

Dual‐Responsive Chitosan‐Grafted PNIPAAm Hydrogel Eye Drop Incorporating Insulin‐Imprinted Microgels for Dry Eye Syndrome Treatment

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 26, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Dry eye syndrome (DES) happens as a result of inadequate tear secretion or excessive evaporation, which leads to ocular surface irritation and damage. A major therapeutic challenge is maintaining effective drug concentrations, as topical formulations are rapidly cleared by blinking and tear turnover.

Size matters for nonlinear (protein) wave patterns

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
Pattern formation and selection are fundamental, omnipresent principles in nature—from small cells up to geological scales. In E. coli bacteria, for example, self-organized pole-to-pole oscillations of Min proteins—resembling a short standing wave—ensure

Single-catalyst high-weight% hydrogen storage in an N-heterocycle synthesized from lignin hydrogenolysis products and ammonia

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Energy storage and biomass utilization are two major challenges for sustainability. Here the authors use a major lignin hydrogenolysis product for the synthesis of an N-heterocycle and develop a bimetallic catalyst for repeated hydrogenation ...
