Brood parasitism reduces but does not prevent Bombus terrestris reproductive success

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Graphical depiction of the colony splitting process. Throughout figures in this paper, results pertaining to host success are represented in blue, and cuckoo success is represented in red. Abstract Cuckoo bumblebees are obligate brood parasites that must invade a colony of their host bumblebee species in order to reproduce.

The informal prisoner justice system: Classification, identification, and punishment of sex offenders behind bars

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract Drawing on 576 interviews with incarcerated men and 131 correctional staff across five Western Canadian prisons, we reconceptualize the prison code as subcultural law, documenting the “informal prisoner justice system” as its enforcement arm. Although scholars have treated the code primarily as cultural values prescribing loyalty, silence, and

Mind(the)Plant: An expandable multimodal facility for the integrated characterization of plant behaviour

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding plant behaviour requires the integration of multiple phenotypic and physiological signals measured over time under controlled conditions. However, different plant signals are typically studied using separate experimental setups, limiting temporal alignment and integrative analyses.

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Impressions: The Positives and the Pitfalls

open access: yesAustralian Dental Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Digital impressions are now central to contemporary dental workflows, driven by advances in CAD/CAM manufacturing and intraoral scanning technologies. In parallel, rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI)—particularly deep learning—has led to its widespread integration into digital impression systems.

Targeting hexokinase 2 to induce breast cancer cell senescence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Hexokinase 2 (HK2) is a key enzyme linked to high tumour cell proliferation. Its inhibitors such as 3‐bromopyruvic acid (3‐BP) induce cancer cell death, highlighting HK2 modulation as potential anti‐cancer treatment. However, standard chemotherapies often cause the emergence of senescent cancer cells, which goes along with cell ...

The nitty‐gritty of vascular permeability in cancer: targeting blood endothelium to control metastases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Blood vascular permeability is a hallmark of cancer and acts as an active driver of metastatic dissemination. Metastasis accounts for the vast majority of cancer deaths, yet most work has focussed on tumour‐intrinsic traits and angiogenesis, while the specific contribution of endothelial barrier regulation to intravasation and extravasation remains ...

AI‐Caramba: The Experience of Mothers in Central Texas With BRAT, a Parenting AI Chatbot

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Virtual parent training interventions (PTIs) have successfully addressed classic participation barriers for over a decade. Regardless, most limit themselves to deliver the in‐person manual and fail to leverage virtual innovation tools like chatbots.

Exit dynamics from organic certification in Quebec

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, EarlyView.
Abstract In Quebec, organic‐certification exits remained persistently high at 5% –7% annually over 2021–2025, while entries fell sharply from 10.8% to 3.4%. By 2025, exits exceeded entries for the first time, contracting the certified stock and reversing a decade of expansion.
