JTA-GAN: A Physics-Informed Framework for Realistic Underwater Image Generation and Improved Object Detection

open access: yesMathematics
Accurate object detection in underwater environments is severely challenged by light attenuation, wavelength-dependent color distortion, and scattering-induced turbidity, which create a substantial domain gap between terrestrial and underwater imagery ...

Adaptive Supramolecular Interactions Govern Redox‐Active Molecules in Aqueous Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Adaptive supramolecular interactions overcome the solubility‐stability trade‐off in aqueous redox flow batteries. Hydrophobic anions disrupt intrinsic π–π stacking to enable high solubility, while redox‐state‐dependent spin pairing and cation coordination dynamically stabilize reactive intermediates during operation.

Multi-modal Conditional Joint Constraints for Unpaired Medical Image Translation

open access: yes
Medical image translation models have demonstrated significant potential in medical imaging analysis due to their high-quality sample generation. However, existing methods rely on paired data, which is less available.

A Retinal Matrix Stiffening Model Reveals FAK‐Dependent Mechanotransduction in Pericytes Underlies Vascular Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we show that retinal matrix stiffness is increased in diabetic mice. Using engineered human vascular models with controlled matrix stiffness, we demonstrate that stiffening activates focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling in pericytes, suppresses Notch signaling, and disrupts vascular morphology.

Region‐Specific Profiling of the Gut Microbiome and Metabolite Landscape in Response to Dietary Intervention Using Electronics‐Free Ingestible Smart Sampling Capsules

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Region‐specific profiling of the gut microbiome is achieved non‐invasively using electronics‐free ingestible sampling capsules that activate at defined intestinal sites through stimuli‐responsive coatings. Deployed in a porcine dietary intervention model, the capsules resolve spatially distinct, fiber‐driven shifts in microbial composition and short ...

Unpaired image translation to mitigate domain shift in liquid argon time projection chamber detector responses

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Deep learning algorithms often are developed and trained on a training dataset and deployed on test datasets. Any systematic difference between the training and a test dataset may severely degrade the final algorithm performance on the test dataset—what ...

BioGAN: An unpaired GAN-based image to image translation model for microbiological images

open access: yes, 2023
A diversified dataset is crucial for training a well-generalized supervised computer vision algorithm. However, in the field of microbiology, generation and annotation of a diverse dataset including field-taken images are time consuming, costly, and in ...

Spatial Stiffness Programming in Single‐Filament Material Extrusion Through Data‐Driven Thermal Foaming

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Single‐filament material extrusion enables spatial stiffness programming through locally controlled thermal foaming of TPU. A data‐driven G‐code framework tunes porosity from 15.7% to 40.7% and hardness from 90 to 63 Shore A within and across layers. Monolithic hands and soft actuators consequently achieve distinct programmed motions without material ...
