This chapter addresses unplanned teenage pregnancy from a human-rights-based perspective. Many programmes focus only on the negative aspects of young people's sexual and reproductive health; putting rights at the centre of teenage sexual health avoids treating adolescents as a homogeneous collection of discrete problems.

Public Perceptions about Unplanned Pregnancy
Family Planning Perspectives, 1997A nationally representative telephone survey in 1994 of 2,002 adults indicates that 60% believe that unplanned pregnancy is a very big problem in the United States, and virtually all (90%) say it is at least a somewhat big problem. Two-thirds mistakenly believe that a larger percentage of women have unplanned pregnancies now than 10 years ago.

Midwifery, 1988Abstract Between May and June 1986 a case control study of late and early attenders at antenatal clinic took place in two South Wales hospitals, one urban and one rural. The study examined the social and attitudinal characteristics of 115 late attenders (18 weeks or later) and a similar number of age matched early attenders (15 weeks or earlier).
