Seismic Behaviour of Unreinforced Masonry
2019The present paper assesses the safety of existing unreinforced building subjected to earthquake loading, considering uncertainty associated with various material properties. A static pushover analysis was carried out on an equivalent frame model of selected clay and fly ash brick masonry walls using two different load pattern as per ASCE/SEI 41-17 ...

Structural Design of Unreinforced Masonry
The Masonry Society Journal, 2002Detailed comparisons of the empirical design and rational design procedures of the 1999 MSJC Code are presented for unreinforced masonry construction. Differences in design results between these two Code approaches are presented, and suggested modifications to minimize discrepancies in design results are included.

Unreinforced Masonry Buildings
Unreinforced masonry is one of the earliest materials used in the construction of buildings. Many such buildings were therefore constructed prior to the introduction of seismic design requirements and tend to be highly vulnerable. Their age also means that unreinforced masonry construction often comprises some of our most important buildings from a ...Matthew Fox, Weng Yuen Kam, Damian Grant

Bidirectional behavior of unreinforced masonry walls
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2014SUMMARYMost of the studies related to the modeling of masonry structures have by far investigated either the in‐plane (IP) or the out‐of‐plane (OP) behavior of walls. However, seismic loads mostly impose simultaneous IP and OP demands on load‐bearing or shear masonry walls.

Failure of Unreinforced Masonry Under Compression
Structures Congress 2013, 2013The contribution presents novel observations on unreinforced masonry made of solid clay brick units and surrounding mortar joints. Focus is the brittle-ductile interaction of the two constituents in form of the so-called masonry prism test under axial compression.

Repair and Retrofit of Unreinforced Masonry Structures
Earthquake Spectra, 1996A comprehensive study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different repair and retrofit techniques for unreinforced masonry (URM) structures. The study was to identify suitable grouting materials and procedures for the repair and retrofit of URM structures, quantify the efficacy of different repair and retrofit techniques, and develop analysis ...

Seismic Rehabilitation of Unreinforced Masonry Walls
SP-188: 4th Intl Symposium - Fiber Reinforced Polymer Reinforcement for Reinforced Concrete Structures, 1999The U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, in partnership with the Composite Institute of the Society of Plastics Industry, Inc. and in support of the Army's facility seismic rehabilitation efforts, is investigating the applicability of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite materials systems to strengthen unreinforced masonry (URM ...
