Steady Flows in Unsaturated Soils Are Stable [PDF]

open access: yesTransport in Porous Media, 2004
The stability of steady, vertically upward and downward flow of water in a homogeneous layer of soil is analyzed. Three equivalent dimensionless forms of the Richards equation are introduced, namely the pressure head, saturation, and matric flux potential forms.

A Geomorphometric Approach to Estimate the Deterioration of Earthen Archaeological Sites by Rainfall and Diffusion Processes: The Huaca Chornancap (Eighth–14th Century ad), Lambayeque, Peru

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rain‐induced erosion processes can severely damage Earthen archaeological sites. Huaca Chornancap (HCH; eighth–14th century ad) is a platform located in the Lambayeque region (Peru) exposed to seasonal rain due to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

Collaborative tensile performance and fracture behavior of rock-concrete composite material under Brazilian splitting

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The mechanical and fracture characteristics of rock-concrete composite (RCC) have always been a key focus in rock mass engineering. To investigate the collaborative tensile properties and failure characteristics of RCC, composite disc specimens were ...

Study on Soil Water and Suction Stress Characteristics for Unsaturated Clay Soil of Airport Engineering Based on Laboratory Tests

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
For the unsaturated soil in Feidong China, this study examined the suction stress characteristics based on the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC), which was different from traditional research ideas.

From Material Tensions to Organizational Paradoxes: How Manufacturers Cope With the Limits of Circular Product Design

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Circular product design (CPD) is central to advancing the circular economy by enabling the narrowing, slowing, and closing of resource flows. Yet, its implementation remains persistently challenging for firms. Prior research has largely framed these challenges as discrete barriers, overlooking the structural contradictions embedded in CPD ...

Oxidative Fast Pyrolysis Enabling Autothermal Production of Porous Functionalized Biochar and Anhydrosugar/Phenol‐Rich Bio‐Oil From Biomass

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Oxidative fast pyrolysis of biomass enables autothermal production of value‐added products. ABSTRACT Oxidative fast pyrolysis can potentially overcome the heat‐supply bottleneck of conventional fast pyrolysis by enabling autothermal operation while also tailoring product quality through controlled oxygen addition.

Estimating Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity in Unsaturated Soil Using Soil Moisture Sensors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Integrated Engineering, 2023
Unsaturated hydraulic conductivity (K) is a measurement of soil water-retaining ability in unsaturated soil. The unsaturated hydraulic properties are necessary to predict the movement of water in unsaturated soil. The current study aims to create an alternative experimental device to estimate theKusing soil moisturesensors. The experimental

Study on vibration isolation performance of wave impeding block in unsaturated soil foundation under an underground dynamic load

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2023
Based on single-phase medium theory and unsaturated porous medium theory, the vibration isolation effect of setting a single-phase solid wave impeding block (WIB) in the unsaturated soil foundation under an underground dynamic load is investigated. Using

Unraveling Synergistic Regulation Mechanism in Nitrogen/Sulfur Co‐Doped Biomass‐Derived Hard Carbon Toward Durable Sodium‐Ion Battery Anodes

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Nitrogen/sulfur co‐doping optimizes the electron and spatial structure of biomass‐derived hard carbon, and the anode demonstrates superior long‐term cycling stability over 2000 cycles, validating an improved “adsorption‐intercalation‐pore filling” mechanism.

Assessment of the impact of climate change on an instrumented embankment: an unsaturated soil mechanics approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Climate change has the potential to affect any transportation network that comprises embankments and cuttings built with soil material in an unsaturated state that is exposed to the climate.
