Mechanical behavior and constitutive modelling of expansive soils under conditions of wetting and low confining stress

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
Typical deformation and failure of expansive soils usually occur under conditions of wetting and low confining stress. However, the mechanisms of coupling between mechanical and hydrological behaviors under those conditions are still obscure.

An Elastoplastic Hydro-mechanical Model for Unsaturated Soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents a coupled elastoplastic constitutive model for predicting the hydraulic and stress-strain-strength behaviour of unsaturated soils. Hydraulic hysteresis in the water-retention behaviour is modeled as an elastoplastic process with the elastic region of the saturation degree.

Torsional ring shear tests on residual strength of expansive soils with different swelling potentials

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The correlation between residual strength and compositional characteristics of expansive soils with different swelling potentials is investigated. The torsional ring shear tests of Denver expansive soil with high swelling potential and Jingmen expansive ...

Modelling shear strength of compacted soils [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
Compacted soils constitute most engineering projects such as earth dams, embankments, pavements, and engineered slopes because of their high shear strength and low compressibility.

Incremental nonlinear constitutive model and parameter variation of transversely isotropic unsaturated soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2021
In order to establish the constitutive model that can simultaneously reflect the unsaturated state, transverse isotropy and nonlinearity of soils, the mechanical properties and constitutive models of unsaturated transverse isotropic soils are ...

Impacts of Unsaturated Conditions on The Ultimate Axial Capacity of Energy Piles [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
This study uses concepts from unsaturated soil mechanics to explain changes in axial capacity observed in geotechnical centrifuge experiments on semi-floating energy piles in unsaturated silt heated monotonically to different temperatures.

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Generalized Terzaghi’s Effective Stress Equation for Unsaturated Soil: An Independent Phase Balance Approach That Considers a Pore Water Content Gradient

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
The effective stress equation for unsaturated soil is the most important equation in unsaturated soil mechanics. It has been derived by many scholars using different methods.

From Material Tensions to Organizational Paradoxes: How Manufacturers Cope With the Limits of Circular Product Design

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Circular product design (CPD) is central to advancing the circular economy by enabling the narrowing, slowing, and closing of resource flows. Yet, its implementation remains persistently challenging for firms. Prior research has largely framed these challenges as discrete barriers, overlooking the structural contradictions embedded in CPD ...
