On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.

Unsteady effects during resistance tests on a ship model in a towing tank

open access: yes, 2008
It is known that there are oscillations in the wave resistance during the constantvelocity phase of a towing-tank resistance test on a ship model. In this work, the unsteady thin-ship resistance theory has been applied to this case. The results have been

Unsteady flow mechanisms in the last stage of a transonic low pressure steam turbine - multistage effects and tip leakage flows

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2017
In this paper, an unsteady investigation of the last two stages of a low-pressure steam turbine with supersonic airfoils near the tip of the last stage’s rotor blade is presented.

Unsteady Oscillatory Flow and Heat Transfer in a Horizontal Composite Porous Medium Channel

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2009
The problem of unsteady oscillatory flow and heat transfer in a horizontal composite porous medium is performed. The flow is modeled using the Darcy-Brinkman equation.

Methodological Approach for Particle Transport: Analyzing Influential Factors and Comparing Simulation Software

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
This study determines the dust filtration behavior of venting tubes in automotive headlights. Numerical simulations using Meshfree and STAR‐CCM+ and suitable experiments were conducted to analyze the airflow field, the particle transport, and the filtration efficiency.

Assessing the Aeroacoustic Response of a Vehicle to Transient Flow Conditions from the Perspective of a Vehicle Occupant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
On-road, a vehicle experiences unsteady flow conditions due to turbulence in the natural wind, moving through the unsteady wakes of other road vehicles and travelling through the stationary wakes generated by roadside obstacles. Separated flow structures

Application of Ultrasonic Sensors for Determining the Height of Dynamic Two‐Phase Layers in Tray Columns

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Ultrasonic sensors are evaluated for their applicability in dynamic gas–liquid systems. By comparing sensor data with two independent optical reference methods, their robustness and reliability are demonstrated under varying flow conditions and tray geometries in column systems.

Numerical study of nonlinearity of unsteady aerodynamics for NLR7301 profile

open access: yes, 2005
Details of unsteady aerodynamics for a two dimensional NLR7301 airfoil with flap were numerically investigated by a Navier-Stokes code in the transonic regime. Unsteady aerodynamic coefficients such as lift and pitching moment show nonlinear aspects in a

Evaluation of the Unsteady Effects for a Class of Wind Turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
An investigation of a class of vertical axis wind turbines is carried out with the unsteady effects due to the rotating blade motion fully taken into account. The work is composed of two parts.
