Nonlinear Aeroelasticity and Unsteady Aerodynamics
AIAA Journal, 2002In this von Karman lecture, a subject is addressed whose foundations were significantly influenced by the work of Theodore von Karman. A classic paper by von Karman and Sears first considered the determination of aerodynamic forces on an airfoil undergoing general time-dependent motion.

Unsteady Cascade Aerodynamics in the Time Domain
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1998A linearized unsteady incompressible aerodynamic model for airfoil cascades is developed that is not restricted to harmonic motion at a constant interblade phase angle. This is accomplished by starting with the unsteady aerodynamic coefe cients generated by LINSUB, a semianalyticunsteady cascadeaerodynamics codethat assumes linearity in both space and ...

New Frequency Parameter for Unsteady Aerodynamics
Journal of Aircraft, 1981A new frequency parameter that minimizes the number of points required to represent unsteady aerodynamics has been developed. The parameter expands the low range of the reduced frequencies where the aerodynamics vary rapidly and compresses the moderate to high frequency range into a finite domain.

Gurney flap aerodynamic unsteadiness
Sports Engineering, 1999A Gurney flap is a thin strip of material attached at the trailing edge of the upper surface of a racing car wing in order to increase the downforce of a wing of limited size. The flow around a single element racing car wing with and without a 4.7% Gurney flap has been investigated experimentally and computationally.

Trends in unsteady aerodynamics
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1963The Sixth Lanchester Memorial Lecture, “Trends in Unsteady Aerodynamics,” was given by Dr. W. P. Jones, M.A., D.Sc., F.R.Ae.S., F.A.I.A.A., of the National Physical Laboratory, on 22nd November 1962. Professor A. R. Collar, M.A., D.Sc, F.R.Ae.S., F.A.I.A.A., F.C.A.S.I., President-Elect, took the Chair for the President who was visiting the overseas ...

This chapter details the various methods of deriving an unsteady aerodynamic model for aeroservoelastic analysis. This usually takes the form of a linear operational relationship between pressure distribution and upwash distribution on a lifting surface for subsonic and supersonic flows, and a nonlinear partial differential equation (Euler, full ...

This paper reviews recent advances in the theoretical and computational modeling of turbomachinery unsteady flows. In particular, the unsteady aerodynamic analyses intended for aeroelastic and aeroacoustic predictions must be applicable over wide ranges of operating conditions and modes of unsteady excitation.

Studies in Non-Linear Unsteady Aerodynamics
1986Abstract : A research program in non-linear unsteady aerodynamics is summarized. New computational and theoretical methods ideally suited for viscous unsteady aerodynamic problems are described. Improved understanding of important physical processes involved in non-linear unsteady aerodynamics are discussed.
