A Numerical Investigation of the Effects of Piston Bowl Geometry and Spray Angle on Combustion, Performance and Emission of a Diesel Engine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A piston bowl's design and spray angle improve air‐fuel mixing, resulting in more complete combustion and higher efficiency. Ansys Forte 2023 R1 a CFD software was used to analyze the effects of five combustion chamber geometries of cylinder, modified re‐entrant, re‐entrant, double‐stepped, and stepped on engine performance, combustion, and emission ...

Immersed Boundary Projection Method for Boundaries With Slip Velocities

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
A formulation of the immersed boundary method for incompressible flow over arbitrarily‐shaped bodies with surface slip described by the Navier boundary condition is presented. The wall slip velocity and the boundary force are determined implicitly through a projection to satisfy both the boundary condition and the divergence‐free condition of the ...

Study on Water Entry of a 3D Torpedo Based on the Improved Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The water entry of a torpedo is a complex nonlinear problem, involving transient impact, free surface deformation, droplet splashing, and fluid–structure coupling, which poses severe challenges to traditional mesh methods.

On the Variability of Results for Cylinder Flow: A Systematic Analysis of Parameter Sensitivity Within the Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
This study systematically investigates the variability of cylinder flow results. We provide a comprehensive overview of literature values and, using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), show that insufficient convergence studies and variations in simulation parameters are a plausible cause for the significant spread in data.

A simplified two‐station approach for modeling metabolism in dam tailwaters subject to diel flow variation

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Tailwaters are ubiquitous and highly managed ecosystems whose food webs often rely disproportionately on autochthonous energy. In situ continuous dissolved oxygen data are increasingly being used to estimate gross primary productivity and ecosystem respiration in rivers, but this approach is complicated in tailwaters, where upriver ...

Challenges in modeling the unsteady aerodynamics of wind turbines

open access: yes2002 ASME Wind Energy Symposium, 2002
Many of the aerodynamic phenomena contributing to the observed effects on wind turbines are now known, but the details of the flow are still poorly understood and are challenging to predict accurately, issues discussed herein include the modeling of the induced velocity field produced by the vortical wake behind the turbine, the various unsteady ...

Market Interviews in Shared Traumatic Reality: A Trauma‐Informed, Co‐Constructed Framework

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Qualitative market interviews may become trauma‐sensitive when ordinary questions about consumption, work, finance, mobility, identity, professional continuity, or institutional trust intersect with displacement, insecurity, loss, or ongoing threat.

Digital Printing of Photoreversible Protective Films

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
A photopolymerized and photoreversible temporary protective film based on an ortho‐nitrobenzyl crosslinker is presented that can be applied using aerosol jet printing. To improve adhesion to industry‐relevant surfaces, a polyethyleneimine‐based adhesion promoter was added to the aqueous formulation of diacrylate cross‐linker and acrylated macromers ...

Efficient Prediction of Unsteady Aerodynamic Characteristics Based on Kriging Model for Flexible Variable-Sweep Wings

open access: yesAerospace
Numerical simulations employing the dynamic mesh method were performed to investigate the unsteady aerodynamics of variable-sweep wings during morphing. Quasi-steady and unsteady aerodynamic characteristics were compared, and the effects of key operating

Staged Bilateral Magnetic Resonance‐Guided Focused Ultrasound for Treating Essential Tremor: Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Unilateral magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy reduces tremor in essential tremor, yet disability often persists on the untreated side. The added benefit and safety of a staged contralateral lesion remain uncertain.
