Hydrodynamics of scallop locomotion: unsteady fluid forces on clapping shells

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1996
A potential flow model has been formulated for scallop swimming. Under the smalldisturbance approximation, the problem of the unsteady flow past the wing-like configuration of a scallop is separated into two linear sub-problems: the steady lifting problem and the unsteady symmetric thickness problem.

Unsteady Fluid Force Acting on Oscillating Square-Section Cylinder

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1995
The difference between experimentally measured lift forces under dynamic condition and quasi-steady condition is termed as an unsteady force, in this technical note. Analysis shows the magnitude of the unsteady force increases with the maximum angle of incidence, αmax encountered by the square cylinder during a cycle of transverse oscillation in a ...

Approximate model for unsteady finite porous journal bearings fluid film force calculation

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2006
This article focuses on an analytical approximate fluid film pressure solution in finite porous journal bearings. Exploring the dynamic behaviour of a rotor on porous bearings, such as the fluid film force, the authors find in an analytical model an effective approach to provide a more readable description of the interaction between rotor and bearings.

LES CFD Simulation of Unsteady Fluid Forces in Tube Bundle

Volume 4: Fluid-Structure Interaction, 2011
Significant nuclear fuel assembly design innovations are regularly incorporated to meet the highest expectations in terms of safety, performance and flexibility. Despite the continuous upgrades of fuel designs and materials, the fuel failure rate has not markedly decreased during the last decade, partly because of higher burn-up, longer cycle lengths ...
