An assessment of stress and production rate of sucker rod heat pipes in oil well pumping system

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The sucker rod pumping system is the preferred oil extraction technique. The concept about equipping the hollow vacuum space in solid sucker rods with heat pipe has been scrutinized in terms of stress and oil production evaluation. Abstract The implementation of the heat pipe concept in sucker rods for oil pumping systems negates the requirement for an

Characteristics of Unsteady Fluid Force Acting on a Rotating Cylinder Partially Submerged in Water.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1993
This paper deals with an experimental investigation of unsteady fluid force acting on a rotating cylinder partially submerged in water. The rotating cylinder partially submerged in water is excited in one direction at a constant amplitude, and we measure the strain of the shaft installed in the rotating cylinder, displacement, and rotational angle for ...

Performance assessment of a potential underground thermal storage facility: Case study of the closed mine Prosper‐Haniel in the Ruhr coal mining area in Germany

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the feasibility of an underground closed‐loop thermal storage facility at a post‐mining site, intended for seasonal heat energy storage. Its principal design shows water flow directions in winter and summer (1, 2), heat pumps (3), an upper water reservoir (4), and connecting pipes (5).

Effects of Camber of S‐Series Airfoils on Aerodynamic Performance, Entropy Generation Rate, Irreversibility, and Second Law Efficiency of Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Due to the depletion of fossil fuels, enhancing wind turbine efficiency is crucial. Utilizing airfoils with high lift‐to‐drag ratios significantly improves power generation by optimizing aerodynamic parameters. Furthermore, entropy generation analysis serves as an effective method for design optimization by minimizing energy losses and exergy ...

Experimental and numerical investigation of blade resonance in a centrifugal compressor for varying gas properties

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2018
The blades of centrifugal compressors are exposed to unsteady forces during operation which can result in resonance response conditions and failures due to high cycle fatigue.

Numerical Analysis of the Unsteady Fluid Force Acting on an Axially Oscillating Balance Piston

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 2012
Dynamic response of the fluid force acting on an axially oscillating balance piston was numerically investigated. The balance piston of a rocket engine turbopump was modeled and forced to oscillate in the axial direction. The flow field around the rotor was simulated using unsteady CFD simulation changing the oscillation frequency.

A Numerical Investigation of the Effects of Piston Bowl Geometry and Spray Angle on Combustion, Performance and Emission of a Diesel Engine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A piston bowl's design and spray angle improve air‐fuel mixing, resulting in more complete combustion and higher efficiency. Ansys Forte 2023 R1 a CFD software was used to analyze the effects of five combustion chamber geometries of cylinder, modified re‐entrant, re‐entrant, double‐stepped, and stepped on engine performance, combustion, and emission ...

Numerical Simulations of Unsteady Fluid Forces in Heat Exchanger Tube Bundles

open access: yes, 2011
Heat transfer is the main concern in designing shell and tube heat exchangers. Flowinduced vibration (FIV) is also a major concern while designing shell and tube heat exchangers. Fluidelastic instability (FEI), turbulence, periodic instability, and acoustic resonance are the FIV mechanisms that could cause to vibrations in heat exchanger tube bundles ...

Immersed Boundary Projection Method for Boundaries With Slip Velocities

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
A formulation of the immersed boundary method for incompressible flow over arbitrarily‐shaped bodies with surface slip described by the Navier boundary condition is presented. The wall slip velocity and the boundary force are determined implicitly through a projection to satisfy both the boundary condition and the divergence‐free condition of the ...

On the Variability of Results for Cylinder Flow: A Systematic Analysis of Parameter Sensitivity Within the Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
This study systematically investigates the variability of cylinder flow results. We provide a comprehensive overview of literature values and, using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), show that insufficient convergence studies and variations in simulation parameters are a plausible cause for the significant spread in data.
