Theory of the lifting surface in unsteady motion in an inviscid fluid

Acta Mechanica, 1977
This paper considers the linearised unsteady motion of a lifting surface in a perfect fluid, proceeding from the fluid mechanics equations written in terms of distributions. A singular integral equation which determines the pressure on the lifting surface is deduced. The particular case of the lifting surface which moves over a (fictitious) cylindrical

Unsteady Linearized Lifting-Surface Theory in the Presence of a Free Surface

Journal of Ship Research, 1987
A new lifting-surface theory is developed for the computation of three-dimensional hydrodynamic pressures on thin structures in the presence of a free surface. Two interesting cases are treated: the steady case and the supercritical unsteady case. The theory is linearized and the problem is reduced to the solution of an integral equation where the ...

Unsteady Lifting Surface Theory for a Rotating Cascade of Swept Blades

Journal of Turbomachinery, 1989
A lifting surface theory is developed to predict the unsteady three-dimensional aerodynamic characteristics for a rotating subsonic annular cascade of swept blades. A discrete element method is used to solve the integral equation for the unsteady blade loading.

Application of unsteady lifting surface theory to propellers in forward flight

15th Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1974
Development of a theory for determining the aerodynamic forces for unsteady, compressible subsonic flow on a propeller in forward flight. The acceleration potential method is used in developing the basic downwash integral equation which governs the flow.

Application of the Unsteady-Lifting-Surface Theory to the Study of Propeller-Rudder Interaction

Journal of Ship Research, 1970
The propeller-rudder interaction problem is studied by means of the unsteady-lifting- surface theory. Both surfaces of arbitrary geometry are immersed in a non-uniform flow- field (i.e., hull wake) of an ideal incompressible fluid. The boundary-value problem yields a pair of surface integral equations, the inversion of which is achieved by the so ...

An improved kernel function computation in subsonic unsteady lifting surface theory

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1985
The authors present a method for evaluating the kernel function occurring in the integral formulation of oscillatory subsonic flow about a planar lifting surface. Results obtained so far are reported to be superior to those obtained with existing methods of solution.
