Navigation in complex unstructured environments

ICARCV 2004 8th Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision Conference, 2004., 2005
Autonomous navigation in complex unstructured environments has recently stimulated considerable interest among the robotics research community. This paper discusses the major challenges such as robust feature extraction and data association or the correspondence problem faced in achieving the above goal.

Informative representations of unstructured environments

IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2004. Proceedings. ICRA '04. 2004, 2004
Perception by autonomous systems, in unstructured dynamic worlds, is one of the significant research challenges in the development of effective intelligent systems. Nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques have been extensively utilized within the artificial intelligence community to devise compact representations of high dimensional data.

Vehicle Planning in Unstructured Environments

Infotech@Aerospace, 2005
A new physics-based method for autonomous vehicle guidance and planning in unstructured outdoor environments. The method guides a vehicle autonomously over dicult terrain, including areas that approach the maximum rough-terrain ability of the vehicle. Current algorithms focus on static capabilities of the vehicle, such as the largest obstacle that can ...

Distributed amorphous ramp construction in unstructured environments

Robotica, 2014
SUMMARYWe present a model of construction using iterative amorphous depositions and give a distributed algorithm to reliably build ramps in unstructured environments. The relatively simple local strategy for interacting with irregularly shaped, partially built structures gives rise to robust adaptive global properties.

Evaluating Information Prescriptions in Unstructured Environments

2010 43rd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2010
Information exchange in the Emergency Department between patients and providers is critical for safe, effective patient care. The episodic nature of ED interactions between patients and doctors who are essentially unknown to each other makes this communication even more tenuous.

Supervisory control of telerobots in unstructured environments

Fifth International Conference on Advanced Robotics 'Robots in Unstructured Environments, 1991
This paper presents a supervisory control concept for exploiting autonomous robot functionality in an unstructured environment. Through an effective man-machine dialogue, the operator uses human perceptual and planning abilities to assist the robot in acquiring a model of the environment.

Exploring Unstructured Environment with Frontier Trees

Journal of Intelligent & Robotic Systems, 2017
This paper presents the frontier tree exploration algorithm, a novel approach to autonomously explore unknown and unstructured areas. Focus of this work is the exploration of domestic environments with lots of arbitrary obstacles, for example furbished appartements.

Supervisory telerobotics testbed for unstructured environments

Journal of Robotic Systems, 1992
AbstractThis article describes a telerobotics testbed for performing tasks such as assembly and repair of spacecraft in unstructured environments. This fully operational multiarm system can operate in teleoperated or supervisory control modes, as well as mixed shared‐control modes, thus enabling operations in totally to partially unstructured ...

Efficient Coverage of Unstructured Environments

2018
In this paper, we present a novel solution to mobile robot coverage of unstructured environments. We apply boustrophedon-based planning and use a heuristic to make the minimum sum of altitudes (MSA) decomposition, which computes an optimal exact cellular decomposition, applicable to more complex environments.

Autonomous Navigation in Unstructured Environments

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2004
Abstract Some of the most challenging applications for robotics lie outdoors in harsh and unstructured environments. These include land applications such as mining, construction and agriculture, maritime applications such as search and rescue, sub-sea mining, and environment monitoring, and in air applications such as mineral exploration, meteorology
