Classifying adaxial and abaxial sides of diseased citrus leaves with selected hyperspectral bands and YOLOv8

open access: yesSmart Agricultural Technology
Huanglongbing (HLB; citrus greening) and citrus canker are invasive diseases afflicting Florida citrus groves, causing financial losses through yield loss, smaller fruit, blemishes, premature fruit drop and/or eventual tree death.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Large‐Scale Genomics Reveals Three‐Source Ancestry and Layered Adaptation to High Altitude in Tibetan Chickens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Whole‐genome analysis of 1,054 chickens reveals three ancestral sources (NWC, SYA, and SHF) with distinct temporal entry patterns into the Tibetan Plateau. Route‐specific selection scans, calibrated against a demographic null, suggest complementary functional enrichments—vascular homeostasis (NWC), calcium signaling and cardiac adaptation (SYA), and ...

SSANet-BS: Spectral–Spatial Cross-Dimensional Attention Network for Hyperspectral Band Selection

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Band selection (BS) aims to reduce redundancy in hyperspectral imagery (HSI). Existing BS approaches typically model HSI only in a single dimension, either spectral or spatial, without exploring the interactions between different dimensions. To this end,

Astrocytic Phenotypic Switching in Posterior Piriform Cortex Orchestrates Bone Cancer Pain–Depression Comorbidity via Purinergic–Noradrenergic Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bone cancer pain and depression share a common origin: astrocytic A2‐to‐A1 transition in the posterior piriform cortex. This phenotypic shift disrupts the ATP–adenosine–A2AR–norepinephrine axis, simultaneously driving nociceptive and affective dysfunction.

Cross‐Modal Denoising and Integration of Spatial Multi‐Omics Data with CANDIES

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this paper, we introduce CANDIES, which leverages a conditional diffusion model and contrastive learning to effectively denoise and integrate spatial multi‐omics data. We conduct extensive evaluations on diverse synthetic and real datasets, CANDIES shows superior performance on various downstream tasks, including denoising, spatial domain ...

Novel oil spill indices for sentinel-2 imagery: A case study of natural seepage in Qaruh Island, Kuwait

open access: yesMethodsX
Oil spills are a paramount and immediate challenge affecting marine ecosystems globally. Effective and timely monitoring tools, such as oil detection indices, offer a swift means to track oil spill spread across vast oceanic expanses.

Multimodal Imaging Reveals Rapid Catecholamine Uptake and Release by Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We show that immune cells (neutrophils) synthesize, uptake, and store catecholamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine or adrenaline. They also release them in response to specific stimuli (serotonin), which we directly visualize using fluorescent nanosensors. We further demonstrate that catecholamines affect neutrophil functions (NETosis) and platelet

Unsupervised Band Selection and Segmentation in Hyper/Multispectral Images

open access: yes, 2008
The title of the thesis focuses the attention on hyperspectral image segmentation, that is, we want to detect salient regions in a hyperspectral image and isolate them as accurate as possible. This purpose presents two main problems: Firstly, the fact of using hyperspectral imaging not only give us a huge amount of information, but we also have to face

tBid‐Mediated Genetic Ablation of Connective Tissue Cells Reveals Their Key Regulatory Function During Limb Regeneration in Axolotls

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We establish a tBid‐mediated cell ablation system in axolotls, achieve rapid and efficient ablation of multiple cell types, including muscle stem cell, spinal cord cell, and connective tissue (CT) cells. We investigate the role of CT using tBid‐mediated CT ablation and identify its essential role for limb development and regeneration.
