Expression of a constitutively active nitrate reductase increases SARS‐CoV‐2 Spike protein production in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves that otherwise show traits of senescence

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary The production of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines can be achieved by transient expression of the Spike (S) protein of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 in agroinfiltrated leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana, a process promoted by the co‐expression of viral silencing suppressor P19.

RECQ4 restricts non‐interfering crossover formation to fine‐tune meiotic recombination rates in rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Crop breeding fundamentally depends on meiotic crossovers (COs) to reshuffle genetic material and integrate favourable alleles into elite cultivars. Recombination frequency is of paramount importance in this process. Higher recombination rates enhance the probability of breaking linkage drag and generating novel allelic combinations.

Dynamic Landscapes of Long Noncoding RNAs During Early Root Development and Differentiation in Glycine max and Glycine soja

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soybean (Glycine max) is an important crop for its nutritional value. Its wild relative, Glycine soja, provides a valuable genetic resource for improving soybean productivity. Root development and differentiation are essential for soybean plants to take up water and nutrients, store energy and anchor themselves.

Salt Stress Adaptations in Soybean Involve Alterations in Pre‐mRNA Processing

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Salt stress can seriously affect plant survival. To adapt to salt stress, plants can alter gene expressions and/or pre‐mRNA processing patterns, or both. Previous studies could not comprehensively profile stress‐responsive pre‐mRNA processing patterns due to limitations in traditional sequencing technologies.

Optimised Ribosome Profiling Reveals New Insights Into Translational Regulation in Synchronised Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Cultures

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Deep sequencing of ribosome footprints, also known as ribosome profiling (Ribo‐seq), enables the quantification of mRNA translation and a comprehensive view of the translatome landscape. Here, we report an optimised Ribo‐seq protocol and analysis pipeline for the model green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtiii (Chlamydomonas).

Genome‐wide DNA methylation profiles in the raphe nuclei of patients with autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, EarlyView.
Aim Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has a strong genetic basis, yet its genetic complexities remain elusive. Current research highlights environmental factors and epigenetic processes, such as DNA methylation, as crucial in ASD development. This exploratory study addresses a gap in understanding epigenetic regulation in the dorsal raphe (DR)—a region ...

Psychiatric‐onset neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease in a psychiatry‐based dementia‐enriched cohort in Japan

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, EarlyView.
Aim A GGC repeat expansion in the 5′ untranslated region of NOTCH2NLC is a genetic cause of Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease (NIID) that exhibits cognitive, motor, and autonomic dysfunction. Our objective is to determine whether there are undiagnosed NIID cases in a psychiatry‐based dementia‐enriched cohort and to identify their clinical ...
