Super-Quadratic Upconversion Luminescence among Lanthanide Ions
We explore the arguably most fundamental aspect of energy-transfer upconversion (ETU), namely the dependence of upconversion luminescence from a higher-energy level, following ETU excitation from a metastable lower-energy level, on direct luminescence from that metastable level. We investigate ETU among neighboring Nd3+ ions in single crystals of GdVO4

Machine‐Learning‐Assisted Onset‐Time Determination in Transient Luminescence Thermometry
Artificial neural networks enable autonomous extraction of onset times from transient heating curves in luminescence thermometry. Using Ln3+‐doped upconverting nanoparticles as luminescent thermometers, we combine experimental transients with physically motivated synthetic curves to enhance data diversity and improve generalization.

Thermometric Based‐Microswimmers with Chemical and Optical Engines
Temperature sensing at small scales is typically performed using passive luminescent particles. Here, an alternative approach is demonstrated by integrating upconversion thermometry into self‐propelled microswimmers powered by chemical fuels or light. This strategy offers a step toward dynamic thermal sensing at the microscale, relevant to both lab‐on ...

Anti-thermal quenching upconversion luminescence of Cr3+ in Sc2(WO4)3:Yb/Cr
Although widely need from various applications, the luminescence of Cr3+ is easily prone to thermal quenching (TQ), causing remarkable intensity reduction as temperature rises, and posing a significant constraint in applications such as high-power ...

Luminescence and upconversion from thulium(iii) species in solution
Thulium salts and complexes are shown to be emissive from three states in the excited state manifold of Tm(3+). Formation of the (1)D(2) state can result in luminescence, or in energy transfer to the lower energy (1)G(4) and (3)H(4) emissive states.
