A Nickel‐Assisted Catalytic Graphitization of PET Waste Into High‐Performance Carbon Anodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study converts waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into structurally ordered carbon through a Ni‐assisted catalytic graphitization process. Precarbonization at 600 °C produces amorphous carbon, followed by Ni(acac)2 impregnation and high‐temperature treatment at 1400 °C.

Chemical upcycling of polymers

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2021
As the production volume of polymers increases, so does the amount of plastic waste. Plastic recycling is one of the concepts to address in this issue. Unfortunately, only a small fraction of plastic waste is recycled. Even with the development of polymers for closed loop recycling that can be in theory reprocessed infinitely the inherent dilemma is ...

Upcycling to Sustainably Reuse Plastics

Advanced Materials, 2021
AbstractPlastics are now indispensable in daily lives. However, the pollution from plastics is also increasingly becoming a serious environmental issue. Recent years have seen more sustainable approaches and technologies, commonly known as upcycling, to transform plastics into value‐added materials and chemical feedstocks.

Describing ‘Upcycling’ : Examining Perception and Valuation of Upcycled Meals

2023
This study aims to examine the impact labeling has on consumers’ ratings of the appealingness and valuation of upcycled meals. We hypothesized that labeling upcycled meals with a short description of what ‘upcycled’ means will result in increased subjective ratings of appealingness and valuation in comparison to food that is not labeled or labeled ...
