Beyond Tradition: An Integrated Toxicological, Ecological, and Public Health Perspective on Aristolochic Acids

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aristolochia species have long been used in traditional medicine for their presumed anti‐inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial properties. However, extensive toxicological and epidemiological evidence now demonstrates that these plants contain aristolochic acids (AAs) I and II, highly potent nephrotoxic, genotoxic, and carcinogenic ...

Study on the pullout bearing characteristics of bio-inspired root piles in coral sand foundation under different root buried depths

open access: yesBiogeotechnics
Bio-inspired root pile (abbreviated as root pile) is a new type of bio-inspired foundation, which has a broad application prospect in the development and construction of China's South China Sea area due to its good bearing characteristics such as pullout

Erosion of a granular bed driven by laminar fluid flow

open access: yes, 2008
Motivated by examples of erosive incision of channels in sand, we investigate the motion of individual grains in a granular bed driven by a laminar fluid to give us new insights into the relationship between hydrodynamic stress and surface granular flow.

Scaling of Short‐Duration, Summer Rainfall Event Temporal Profiles With Warming Over Great Britain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Temperature scaling has been used to analyse the temporal profiles of short‐duration, summer rainfall events in Great Britain, for sub‐hourly observed and convection‐permitting climate model (CPM) data. Results show an increase with dewpoint temperature of event total rainfall depth, maximum intensity, concentration and front‐loading.

Is AI an Algorithm by Any Other Name? Behavioral Reactions to AI‐ and Model‐Based Demand Planning Algorithms

open access: yesJournal of Operations Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the ongoing deployment of AI algorithms, managers do not know whether existing demand planning processes account for possible differences in human behavior when using AI‐based systems in comparison to legacy model‐based systems. This study examines how human behavior may differ when performing demand forecasting tasks due to the ...

Large-scale model test on installation characteristics of open-ended pipe pile

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2019
The open pipe pile is widely used because of its high bearing capacity, reliable quality, and convenient construction. The formation of the soil plug makes the total resistance of the open pipe pile different from that of the closed pipe pile. The bearing

Axial Bearing Behaviour of A Model Pile in Sand under Multiple Static Cycles [PDF]

open access: yes
[[abstract]]This paper designed and built a set of loading equipment for conducting model pile test. The cyclic axial load was manually applied in a displacement-controlled type.

The Glacial Legacy of the Geneva Basin: Morphology and implications of an intricate tunnel valley system revealed from 3D seismic data

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Like other perialpine basins and glaciated margins, the Geneva Basin in SW Switzerland is characterised by buried tunnel valleys, which are elongated incisions widely attributed to subglacial meltwater erosion beneath continental ice sheets. However, an inclusive understanding of the geological control on the evolution of the glacial landscape

Effect of Intermediate Sheet Piles in Non-Homogenous Soil on Seepage Properties Under Hydraulic Structure Using SEEP/W Program

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2017
The seepage through a permeable soil under hydraulic structure exerts uplift pressure and may carry soil particles there by leads to piping. This paper concerns to study the effect of using intermediate sheet pile under the apron of hydraulic structure ...

Compactifying de Sitter Naturally Selects a Small Cosmological Constant

open access: yes, 2014
We study compactifications of $D$-dimensional de Sitter space with a $q$-form flux down to $D-Nq$ dimensions. We show that for $(N-1)(q-1)\geq 2$ there are double-exponentially or even infinitely many compact de Sitter vacua, and that their effective ...
